Ever notice the contradictory answers you get in an astrology question?

What does that tell you about the "science" and/ or reliability of astrology?

Update:

Anon: I could quibble but I get your point. But I would add that most disciplines have a predictability that can be determined through repeated studies or results.

I feel like this section is a gossip site about signs than anything else. But it's still fun to socialize.

Wait now. I can pull any two medical studies on one given subject and come up with several opposing opinions.

It's not the fault of the discipline, but the fallible humanity of the ones practicing said discipline that causes these differences in outcome. That's with any discipline, whether scientific or not. If you want exact and precise results from ANY discipline, you will have to remove humans from the equation.

Your logic is faulty; if you want a good diagnosis, go to a good doctor. If you want good astrology, go to someone who knows. Yahoo Answers is the educational equivalent of the walls of a public bathroom, and you are expecting to see John Hopkins level diagnosis from it. Your expectations are a bit much, don't you think?

__Astrology also has predictability and basic standardization, but you will not find that here. You will find nothing of real astrology in this place. The best you can say about this place is that it's a good place to observe the learning cycle (and I use the term "learning" very very loosely) of the modern teenager.

In a true astrological forum (such as on astro.com and professional sights) you will find that each placement is given a specific set of possible variables that are available for development. As with psychology, those variables are developed according to the person's specific environment and other such influencing factors.

At best, you could compare astrology to the social sciences, where human growth and development factors must be considered when determining outcomes. As with other social sciences, if you expect a + b to always equal c in every situation, you will not be very successful in determining outcome because you did not take into consideration the human factor.

No, I haven't. If you meant that I get contradictory answers, then the answer's still no. If you mean that you get contradictory answers, then how am I supposed to know that? I do appreciate that you're saying that you're disciplined. I like that in a man.

um by and large there isn't a lot of contradiction. mostly just people saying the same type of thing in a different way, some more in depth than others. and of course there are people who are completely mistaken. that never happens in the science section? WOW!

With science, it is consistency that is desired. That is the last thing astrology is. Even when it is wrong astrology is not consistent.

“Science is a way of trying not to fool yourself. The principle is that you must not fool yourself, and you are the easiest person to fool.”

I really don't think yahoo answers is a good example ... go to any section and notice how many contradictory answers there are ...

I was on a jury about mesothelioma

I saw one set of doctors citing studies completely contradicting another group of doctors citing other studies

Marc, what it mostly tells you is that the majority of people answering questions about astrology don't really understand it.

They think it's all about the Sun sign, when the Sun sign is only 2% of the entire chart.

For that matter, I suspect that you don't understand it very well either.
