Is it possible for a person to have more than seven different personalities?
I'm doing research for a project and it involves a theory. Is it theoretically possible for one person to have up to seven or more personalities that change on a daily basis? I am already doing research on my own, but I thought that perhaps somebody on here might be able to give me a few pointers on how multiple personality disorder affects an individual and how it is displayed in the individual. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I will award ten points to the best answer.

its called dissociative identity disorder. don't confuse personalities and mood swings. the average is 15 but there are known cases with 100 personalities. the individual is unaware of the alters and suffers from amnesia when the alters take over. it's prevalence is only 1.5 percent. 9 out of every ten that suffer from it are women.it is typically caused by severe trauma in early childhood, and can be related to post traumatic stress disorder. there is a biological theory that says that disfunctoin the hippocampus and amygdala may play a part as well. treatments are similar to those of PTSD. a therapist would want to identify and neturalize cues and triggers, and help the individual identify the identities.
your best bet would be to go to a library and get peer reviewed research. i like PsycINFO and PsycARTICLES

i think you would be very interested in that series. it displays evidence that it is possible for the personalities to change on a daily basis although not all of them. she seems to have 4 or 5 that she switches on and off daily.
it affects the individual because they arent really an "individual" they are a multiple. they are split into several different personalities. to me, i think it is a fragmented person who separated themselves through traumas and that personality got stuck in it then resurfaced. but it would be hard to function in a work environment with your inner child being triggered and turned on uncontrollably while you are either dealing with a customer or working on documents behind a desk.
How it comes about exactly is unknown, satanic rituals during childhood have been known to cause these disorders and other traumatic affairs. some believe it is demons influencing the person. which can sound far fetched to some, matters what you are believing in. but regardless, it is very very hindering to a person who doesnt have it under control.
I also think that it is a lot more common than people suspect.you can create a personality when mocking someone or joking with someone. you can hear the different voice that comes about. i think a lot of people if not most people have it to some extent including myself. but its no harm or anything of that matter unless it becomes uncontrollable. that is my personal opinion.
take actors for example, the art of creating and controlling different personalities.

one could argue both sides. i dont know personally. but i hope this helps out. youtube has some great documentaries on this subject if you want to watch some others. i enjoy seeing the people rather than reading psychiatrists mumbo jumbo.

Do an Internet search on Kim Nobel.
I've done some reading on her and she supposedly has about 100 personalities.
Kim Nobel is a painter. I think it's 7 of her personalities that have exhibits of their work.
It's very interesting to read about her and her daughter.

Well, according to this... (line number 2 "According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) one of the essential features of DID is that at least two identities or personality states recurrently take control of the person's behavior [3] switching between distinct personality states."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dissociative_identity...
...it states "AT LEAST TWO identities." So going off of that, I'd say that it's possible to have more.
