I need some advice on whether to fix or junk this car?

I need some advice from people. So my car has once again broken down. This time the alternator has gone out. Over the past 5 years, I have replaced the ignition switch 4 times, master break booster, struts, bushings, fuel pump, water pump, starter, heater core, etc, etc, etc...The inside is trashed (no chance to sell), the ABS system is shot and the transmission (planetary gear) is going out. Me and my family have spent THOUSANDS to keep this car running. Its a 98 Pontiac Grand Am. At this point, I dont know if I want to replace the alternator. Cause the transmission is still and will still be going out. Do I give up? Is it time to throw in the towel?? Or would you fix it? (considering I have replaced almost every part in the car). I dont want to waste more money putting into it. But it would almost be a waste because of all the money I have put into it. I need advice!!!! Suggestions???

Yep,cut your losses and let her go. Those were'nt the greatest cars anyways. I wouldn't go the junkyard route yet. Part it out on craigslist. Sell what you can and then sell the rest to the junkyard. Chances are someone else could use those new parts you put on it

If you can drive it into the junk yard you will get about $300. You will only get half of that if they have to tow it. Another option is do what I did with my POS, which is donate your car to charity. They got it for free and I got a tax deduction worth more than I would have gotten from the junk yard. This is where I went; http://www.cars4charities.org/

my first question could be does it run or stall out? or does it basically crank over? compression issues are many times the effect of a undesirable head gasket, and the plug being hit by potential of the piston is an impossibility.without tension in the radiator and no coolant, im prepared to wager that's the pinnacle gasket. i might circulate on line and ask in a jeep talk board, you will get greater desirable and greater precise solutions there.if that's the pinnacle gasket, it wont be too plenty complication to swap in the adventure that your routinely minded.

treat your car like your youngin. i say drive it to the ground. you've fixed everything else on the car, get the alternator, wait till the transmission goes out and get a good deal on a new/used trans. and then u basically have a brand new car, other than the moter itself.

Sell it to the junk yard, you'll prob get like $300, but I wouldn't spend one penny on a car that's acting like the dominoes affect....

My best advice to you is to get rid of the car ASAP and chalk it up as a learning experience.

    Never let this happen again.

If you have other options you could scrap it. But if you only have one other vehicle it be better to fix and use it as a back up car.
