What is going on in Illinois besides chicago, sports, and drought?

I know some people in Michigan and Indiana and I feel like I sort of know what is in Ohio. However, I seem to never hear any news whatsoever about anything that happens in Illinois, even in Chicago, except a little bit of sports news.

What is going on in Illinois?

Is it having a ton of drought right now or is it doing OK?

Besides Chicago, some sports, and a drought, what is going on in Illinois?

Update:

I apologize for not capitalizing Chicago in the question!

Update 2:

I love all the answers :)

In the history of U.S. there has been once in a while a very bad drought year. Seems we're having one now. It seems it'll start raining again next year probably. I found a few great things on the web about it.

(hope you can get that somehow! if it tries to block you this time, deleting the ny times cookies gets past it though slightly unethically)

I was born in the Chicago suburbs. Illinois is a big farming state. There are a lot of corn fields there. I have relatives in small towns in southern Illinois. Driving from town to town you're usually driving through corn fields.

Illinois is known as the land of Lincoln. Lincoln lived in Springfield before he became president. You can take a tour of his old house. It's pretty cool because there's some of his original furniture there. You can even see the desk where he wrote the "house divided" speech. There's also a really cool house that was designed by famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. It's interesting walking around that house. Not only did he design the house, but he designed most of the furniture and light fixtures.

North Central Illinois SW of Chicago is having a drought until last night when we got 3/4 inch of rain, that is a total of 2 1/4 inches all summer. The corn plants are drying already like it is September.

There is a sweet corn festival going on in Mendota soon, they have had plenty of rain there...

The citizens of Illinois ate the Grand Prarie to oblivion! Currently, they are running around in circles looking for what is left!
