When Josephus writes about the the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, whose name was James, is this THE?

Jesus Christ whose brother was indeed called James?

Book 20, Chapter 9, 1 of the Antiquities

This text is not in dispute by scholars.

Of course Josephus is not quite contemporary with Jesus, but then we know that there are few to zero contemporary Judean writings, and none whatsoever from Roman sources.

    Of course.

Atheists love to ignore this little passage (for obvious reasons!!)

Much easier for them to keep playing the "no evidence of Jesus" card, so that they do not have to think any further. It is denial - deep, conscious, willful denial.

Yes, the overwhelming majority of modern scholars consider the reference in Book 20, Chapter 9, 1 of the Antiquities to "the brother of Jesus, who was called Christ, whose name was James" to be authentic and to have the highest level of authenticity.

    Wishing you well.

Yes, James, the author of the Book of James was Jesus' half-brother, NOT James the Disciple! A lot of people are under the impression that Jesus was a myth and never lived, but they do NOT know the facts. The historical evidence that Jesus lived is so overwhelming, that there is virtually no historian that would refute that fact! I know that you aren't making that insinuation, but I'm just saying- just in case someone that believes that happens to read this post . . . First of all there is the evidence in the Scripture in the 27 books of the New Testament, from eye witnesses whose lives were radically changed forever! Professor Simon Greenleaf, the greatest expert on evidence in the world (in the early 20th Century). When he spoke on evidence, that settled the matter, his expertise was undisputed in his day. He was Jewish and after studying the evidence found in the Bible, he became a believer in Jesus AND His Resurrection. There are19 early pagan writers, 3 Jewish writers and the 20+ writers of the New Testament in the 1st and 2nd centuries whose names I can't spell but there is Pliny the Lesser, Julius the Postate, and Celcus, the first one to write an entire book against Christianity, titled "A True Discourse", in it, he discusses the virgin birth of Jesus and many other accounts of Jesus' life, including the miracles that Jesus performed, but he NEVER claimed that Jesus never lived. Even though he wrote against Christianity, he did Christianity and Jesus a favor by documenting the very existence of Jesus. It was an unquestionable fact back then. Then there was Tasifis (I spelled it like it sounds, probably not spelled correctly), the most famous historian of the Romans. He was born in 55 A.D.right in the middle of the New Testament period, and he wrote about Christian persecution, Jesus, His life, death and Resurrection from the dead and the prophecies that Jesus fulfilled, along with the destruction of Jerusalem, and the overthrow of the Jewish people. Then there was Flavius Josephus, born in 37 A.D., the most famous of all Jewish historians who wrote "The Antiquities of the Jews", he also wrote "The Jewish Wars", and he was also a general in the Jewish army. In The Antiquities of the Jews" he wrote, "About this time was Jesus, a wise man, if it be proper to call Him a man, for He was a doer of wonderful works. A teacher of such men who received truth with pleasure, He drew over to Him, many of the Jews and many of the Greeks. He was The Christ, and when Pilot, who at the instigation of the principle men among us who had condemned Him to the Cross, those who loved Him at first, did not forsake Him, for He appeared to them alive again on the third day, that the divine Prophets had foretold these and many other wonderful things concerning Him, and the sect of Christians so named after Him, are not extinct to this day." So yes, there were numerous contemporaries that wrote about Jesus, and yes, we see that even the Romans, actually the MOST famous historian of the Romans wrote about Him. thanks.

I do not know the place you observed this crap about James. It would not qualify as proof of something. You mentioned yourself it used to be an act of an anus. I not ever doubted the existence of Jesus. I do have purpose to doubt that he had a brother Jim Christ. But it might make for a funny film. Jesus lived and died. I don't consider they made him up. He certainly not claimed to be God. That resolution was once made after his death. Without his input.

Yes. He wrote the book of James. Jude was also half brother to Jesus who wrote the book of Jude. It is the book just before Revelation.

Mar 6:3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at Him.

The James who wrote the book of the Bible called James was Jesus' brother. Jude who wrote Jude was also Jesus' brother.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, James and Jude were among the 120 on the day of Pentecost that received the Holy Ghost.

Except that a Roman Historian from that time frame would never have used Christ (and that is not the exact word used, the exact word used was Christus when it should have been Christos), and the text before and after that paragraph would have "scanned" better without that paragraph, and the style and prose in that paragraph differs slightly from the paragraphs around it. Aside from the fact that it was a bishop that brought it forth as proof (and was unknown before then). Those are the main reasons why many people consider that "evidence" controversial, at the very least, oblique at the very best, and a downright forgery at the very worst.

Once again, not a very solid piece of "evidence".

Yes - there has only ever been one Jesus with the title Christ. Jesus was a fairly common name, the equivalent of Joshua & means 'Saviour', but Christ was not a surname as some people seem to think! Christ = Messiah = God's Anointed One, the One whom God had promised to send many years before to be the Saviour of the world.
