Should I go to grad school for my mfa or get my public school teaching certificate?
Basically, here is the deal. I have my BA in English and currently teach the English language full time in South Korea. I took several education classes during college and also taught in the states. In my heart, I know I want to teach art at the college/university level, but at the moment, I'm actually loving my middle school.
So here is the problem. I am a self taught artist. I did not take many classes in college. My skill level is pretty decent though I find it hard to continue perfecting my craft outside of a classroom envioronment. I don't think my skills are ready for grad school so I feel I keep pushing the date back to attend.
I know most people say that you shouldn't get an MFA unless you have this true calling to teaching, which I do, but I also want to broaden my skills and just dedicate 2 years to it. Even though I like teaching English as a second language, and would like teaching English language arts, I know for a fact I want to teach art to adults.
So I'm pulling between just at the moment getting certified to teach public school kids in America or going head on for my MFA. Do any of you have experience with this type of thing? Or have any advice on how I can obtain my goals? Thank you in advance.By the way, I don't know if my age matters, but I am rather young. 22 to be exact.

It is going to be near impossible to get a teaching job in the U.S. in public school with over 1/2 million teachers laid off. Go for your MFA.

You do not say where you are from. In CA you must go on to an permitted credential software. When you studied English as an undergrad you will have to entire 30 more units of schooling lessons and a pair of semesters of scholar teaching. If you were not an English main, you're going to need to do a number of extra classes in English. There's a nationwide scarcity of math and science teachers, so frequently they may be able to select up emergency credentials. They nonetheless have got to complete the entire credential application, however they're allowed to train whilst they are doing it. However in CA that might not occur in English. And it really is a good thought. Figuring out literature and figuring out the right way to coach are 2 exclusive things. Great of luck to you.
