Am i the only who was not impressed by joe calzaghes career?

He really didnt fight anyone, he was just really big on intense slap boxing...i was upset to see him in an article on yahoo that placed him as one of the top 5 fighters to retire undefeated, are you kidding? so am i justified with my assessment of calzaghe?

Your not the only one. At first I was impressed when I was just learning about boxing, but when I actually learned more about his record and who he fought, I was unimpressed. A bunch of local fighters in his backyard. It's forty fights before we get to the Jeff Lacy win, which was good, and then his overrated vics over past it B-Hop and faded RJJ.

I don't mind his slapping style, his hands were injured early in his career so I understand. He is a very good boxer, not great, and certainly not all-time great.

Absolutely not, calslappy didn't fight good fighters in their primes, but as stone said, Frank Warren had much to do with it. His victories over Jeff Lacy, bernard hopkins and Roy Jones Jr were also sloppy, calzaghe was a volume puncher with no power but was tough to knockout. I was hoping to see him fight Carl froch before he retired but of course that never happened.

calzaghe fought the best guys of his time he had some meaningless fights when he first got the title but that was more to do with his manager frank warren who does that to all his fighters .if you can name 5 unbeaten fighters that were better than calzaghe i'd love to see your list as for his slapping i understand what you're saying but calzaghe started as a puncher winning 21of his first 22 by ko then suffered hand damage and he had to change his style to protect his hands so he went more for speed than power . calzghe beat 8 world champions he beat kessler at kesslers peak the same kessler that beat carl froch ,he beat bernard hopkins who in his next fight beat unbeaten kelly pavlick and he embarrassed jeff lacey who was a big favorite to win .

No your not the only one the two answers above me had a lot to say about nothing . Neither one of them gave you any names that were not old. I will give him credit for beating an old Hopkins but as we found out Hopkins was not as old as his age suggest. He was a really good fighter and I think history is going to be really good to him.
