Tips on taming a 10 week old ferret?

Ok so I a free to good home 10 week old albino ferret from a friend of a friend and I was able to hold her yesterday, twice when I got her not that it matters but she's called Luna... Anyway when I got her they had her out and she seemed quite tame and tame enough to hold her when I then put her in the pet carrier the youngest child started tormenting her so she got quite agitated well before I got her home. Today she allowed me to stroke her for a little while then turned and nipped me on my finger.... Ouch, Luna drew blood.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips to get her used to me and be able to get her out of the cage as I don't want to end up being scared of getting bitten all the time where even the simpler tasks like feeding and cleaning cage out will freak me out.

I've never had a ferret before so any help will be appreciated

As you are a stranger to her you should give her time to get used to you. Take it slow and wait for her to approach you. Let her get used to her surroundings first too, she's bound to be a little jumpy. If she continues to bite you then you should use the scruffing method to teach her that she is hurting you. To scruff her you just simply lift her up by the loose skin on the back of her neck. Whilst doing this you can either hiss at her (ferrets know this as a sign to back off/they're doing something wrong) or you can firmly tell her "NO". She will eventually learn what your limits are but she doesn't seem to be a really bad biter so she should learn quite quickly, especially once she settles in. You can also treat her with ferret treats or ferretone when she listens to you or she plays nicely with you. Good luck and if you have any problems or questions then feel free to contact me :)

I had two ferrets and endured weeks of nipping before it stopped. Just make it clear that's not acceptable behaviour and be sure to handle her as much as possible. Your fear makes it worse.
