Should assault rifles be legal in the US. They are not legal in California.?
Gun owners in California use variations or knockoffs of the AR-15 assault rifle, but they have been prohibited from purchasing, selling or owning assault weapons since 1989, when the state became the first in the nation to ban military-style assault weapons in the aftermath of the Stockton schoolyard shooting that left five children dead and 29 others wounded.
"They may look like AR-15s, but they are not AR-15s," said Mike Fournier, co-owner of the San Jose-based Gun Exchange. "It is a named, registered assault rifle and you just cannot buy one."
California has approved 45 gun-control laws since then, while laws protecting the rights of gun owners have flourished around the rest of the country.

Yet such weapons are still widely owned by Californian criminals and legal permitted FFL holders. If, anything? All such controls have done nothing. Except highly restrict decent law abiding Citizens.
Australia has some of the most restrictive gun laws on Earth. Since 1996 handguns are banned. Violent crimes have more than doubled.
The answer to society evil is MORE Liberty. Not less. One does not end hate speech by making it illegal. One does so by MORE Free Speech. Same with gun violence. Because it isn't the tools that cause the Evil. It's the HANDS holding the tools.
Otherwise our Police and Military would all be murderous thugs we fear. They wield guns.

Yes assault rifles should be legal nationwide AND their manufacture and sale to ordinary citizens should be re-allowed. By the way, you're mixing up the terms "assault weapon" which is political speak for "the bogeyman" with assault rifle which is a genuine type of military small arm.

By restricting guns you simply disarm law abiding citizens. Do you think a killer is going to care if he breaks a law or not.

I agree with John. Guns don't kill people, PEOPLE KILL PEOPLE.
For the record, VEHICLES to kill millions of people every year.
If you want strict gun laws, then we should also ban cars from exceeding 40 mph.

Yes they should be legal. It's one type of weapon among millions of other weapons humans are capable of using to kill someone.
