Are Democrats attitude toward taxes more for punishment, than for revenue generation?

Considering that taxes are not a zero sum game, and you will not get the revenue you might calculate, based on current tax rates, taxing the top 10% will not do much to reduce the deficit or debt

Given this light, the attitude of Democrats to raise taxes on the "rich", instead of reforming the tax code and cutting spending, just doesn't make any sense.

So...is it just for punishment?

Yes. Those damn rich people shouldn't have all the wonderful things I don't. They should be taxed to hell until they have less than I do.

It serves them right. They don't deserve to have more than me. I'm so good as they are and probably better.

Yeah, better yet, tax away everything they have and give it to me. It's my turn. It isn't fair I don't get a turn.

Source(s): For decades I studied philosophies, cultures, and social institutions. I began that because of confusion resulting from my military experience under the shadow of neo-Marxist anti-military and anti-capitalism indoctrination in the universities. I continue a forty year quest wading through the huge pile of stinking crap a wide variety of bigots piled on top of truth hiding it from nearly everyone's view. The pile was made by blaming people they don't like while excusing people they do like regardless of where the fault really lies.
  • The top 10% pay most of the budget, so they simply want to tax anyone who has it. Democrats will never rely on estimates. They want a guaranteed flow of revenue to plan their budgets and give it to their union and connected friends. It's the same on both sides.

I know plenty of 1% Democrats and every single one has a financial interest in politics.

Watch how they thumbs down the truth. I was there. Involved in the game, and the children on this site are naive. The rest are taking from the government. That is how it works. We are all either fighting to keep our wages or fighting for someone else's.

EDIT: I PERSONALLY KNOW FOR A FACT THAT A CONTRACTOR WAS PAID $11 MILLION FOR A $3 MILLION PROJECT. HE GAVE A TIDY SUM TO THE STATE SENATOR AND CONGRESSMAN WHO ENDED UP APPROVING THE FUNDING. HE MADE $8 MILLION, AND THE IDIOTS ON YAHOO COULD CARE LESS BECAUSE HE IS A DEMOCRAT. UNBELIEVABLE. THIS IS WHY MY STATE IS SO SCREWED. I KNOW TEACHERS WHO BLAME THE 2 REPUBLICANS HERE WHEN IT'S THEIR OWN PARTY WHO STEAL ALL THE WEALTH! THE SAME PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT RAISING TAXES ON SOMEONE ELSE SCREAM ABOUT ANOTHER COMPANY THAT IS PACKING UP AND MOVING. THEN THE STATE HAS TO BRIBE A COMPANY TO COME HERE. CORPORATE WELFARE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY WAY.

    No.

Your theory that somehow if the rich get a tax break they will somehow trickle wealth down upon the masses is simply ridiculous.

So is the notion that the debt can be reduced by cutting revenue.

Seeking a way for those in poverty to pay more, either by flat tax or national sales tax, is punishment.

Wake up, neocon, the solution to the debt crisis is to cut spending and increase revenue from those who can afford it most.

    Its not punishing, its sensible.

Anybody who is serious about tackling the deficit wants to raise taxes and reduce spending.

you ought to do more advantageous in case you ask one question at a time... particularly of 5... fantastically even as some look opposite... one one hand, Democrats promote freedom... the liberty to do what you desire, in reality see you later as your no longer hurting everyone else... and with this freedom, comes own responsibility... obviously for the authorities to allow you to recognize what to do... it really is eliminating own responsibility... like in case you are able to sleep with that man or woman or in case you are able to smoke that weed...(very few prefer to legalize complicated drugs, sex with animals and such etc, so there are some limits) on the different question.. we desire help to be accessible in case you like it... no longer that we rigidity it on everyone... purely there for those in desire... i don't think of both make everyone detatched... for the most area... some people detatch... some do not... and that i imagine we could continually have the liberty to finish that... yet i do not see everyone gazing everyone as a lot less human... surely, if everyone is... it form of feels to be the Southern Christians to the homosexuals and the Republicans to those on welfare...

Revenue generation. The deficit is much too big to not raise taxes on those who have most of the money. Spending cuts are needed, too, but trying to balance the budget on spending cuts alone would hurt our economy much, much, much, much worse than raising taxes on the rich. Spending cuts takes disposable income out of consumers' pockets.

I would argue the Republicans are trying to punish people on government assistance with their "spending cuts only" strategy. The voter ID laws is further evidence of their class warfare.

  • The 1% have to be taxed until they are too poor to buy Congress.

  • Yea, Government only serves to wage war and cut taxes.

  • a con comes up with a program that cuts billions... "YAY, GREAT IDEA... that's amazing"

a lib tax increase that creates the same billions... "BOO HORRIBLE IDEA... it doesn't even solve the deficit'

NO IDEA SOLVED THE ENTIRE DEFICIT... BY THAT STANDARD ALL CON AND LIB IDEAS ARE FAILURES...

con arguments just don't make any sense... you crow how billions are nothing when you don't like it... but how it's great when it's gov. cuts...
