9 month old still crying for bottle?
I have a 9 month old son, who has always LOVED his bottle, to a obsessive level. Right now he gets a 8 oz bottle in morning and night, and 3-6 oz bottles during the day along with stage 2 food. The question I ask is, why is he so crazy for the bottle? He is always mad when the bottle is done, and we try to burp him, and gets REALLY mad during the 8 oz bottle when we burp him half way through (he has always had issues with sucking air with the bottle, so we still burp him at 4 oz during the 8 oz bottle)
He just gets so crazy about it, and I want to know why! We have to hide it from him while preparing it, and hide it when he burps, and when hes done.. There are times that hes just fine when we take it away, but others when he isnt, and NEVER when he has to burp.
Also, he refuses to drink anything but formula. We try Gerber "sitters" juice all the time, both straight and diluted with water, but wont take it, or straight water, out of either a sippy cup or bottle. I think he gets more mad then anything when its not formula in the bottle.
Hes a healthy baby, but this behavior drives me nuts.. Hes done it basically since birth (after he was off breast milk (1.5 months)) And i cant find anything searching online that is like this, unless its for a 4 month old! I would have thought he would be over this by now. He knows hes going to get it!
Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

He obviously NEEDS his bottle. It sounds as though he is using it for comfort as well as food. Why not give him extra bottles of water in between feeds? Don't give him juice. It is really bad for babies - including the juice that is sold for babies! It is just sugar water - really unhealthy and it rots their teeth. Rather offer him a sippy cup with water in. You could also try offering him more solid food, in case he is hungry.
I would never, ever take a bottle away from a baby before he is ready. He will wean him self when he feels secure enough to not need the security of his bottle. At 9 months old he shouldn't need much winding. He should be old enough to drink all his bottle at one go. It sounds as though he is either having to wait too long for his bottles, or he is is not getting enough food. Try him with some banana - just mash with a fork. It is full of goodness and very filling. You can also make some porridge for him - about 2 tablespoons oats with 1/2 cup water, bring to boil in microwave (about 1-2 minutes on HIGH). Sweeten with some mashed banana or cooked apple or pear - you don't need to add milk or anything else. It is really filling and might help him be less desperate for his next bottle.
When he has other food he find good he will soon have less interest in the bottle.

Some children are just that attached to certain things. My second son was like this and it just took time...when I decided to take him off the bottle at a year I just went cold turkey with him. One day just told him no more bottles, he had to have a sippy with milk. We had a bad day or two but then he was fine. Had to do the same thing when I took him off the sippy, just took it away and told him no more. We are currently having to do that same with diapers...he has no interest in potty training, so we just told him no more diapers...he had to wear pull ups.
Anyway, it may be that he is just that attached, it could be that he may not be getting enough formula. If you want to start giving him milk the mix it with his formula a little at a time and increase it over time. Good luck and hope this helps.
