Dog Breeds (please help)?

Me and my Mother want a dog, My dad isn't so sure. He has Allergies, and my mom wants an intimidating large guard dog and i want a good cuddlebukkit. So we are looking for a dog that's a good watch/guard dog, is a low shedding breed and is Loyal to family. Try to give me breeds in the 65+ pound ranges. My parents are previous dog owners so training is not an issue (hopefully). I am 17 and parents are 53 if that helps.

Update:

My Dad Is Moderately Allergic, Not severely allergic! He said he would like a dog and we were thinking about pit bulls but how are they with cats?

Best Breeds so Far:

-Pit Bull

-Doberman Pinscher

-Smooth Collie

-Great Dane

NO BULLY BREEDS. Unless you have the money and time to enroll in training classes after extensive research on the breed, I suggest you rule out Pit Bulls. Don't get me wrong, they are incredible dogs, but they are NOT for first time owners. They should only be with people who are extremely dedicated to their training and/or have had years of prior experience with the breed. Plus, the common skin problems that run in the breed makes it even less of an ideal choice.

You want a dog like a Poodle, or a dog similar to a Poodle, as for they are "hypo-allergenic" because they don't have fur - they have hair and as a result, shed an incredibly lower amount of it which leads to less floating pet dander. Schnauzer's are a good choice as well, because they are also "hypo-allergenic" and come in both Miniature and Giant. If you google Hypoallergenic dog breeds, you'll get an entire list of recommendations.

In my experience, the dog breeds which might be the least prone to advance human aggression problems are the Pug, Beagle, English Bulldog, and Boston Terrier. I have not quite noticeable an example of any of those breeds that i might say had a significant aggression hassle, although i've met more than a few fearful Beagles. Good-bred Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, Pit Bulls, and Greyhounds could be right up there as well. On the other hand are the breeds which can be undoubtedly to be aggressive. I have certainly not had a best expertise with a Yorkie. Actually, of the 50 or so Yorkies that i have encountered, i would say all 50 had some style of aggression hassle. Chow Chows, Akitas, and Chihuahuas are proper up there as good. However, i might say that probably the most aggressive dog breeds are the quite a lot of breeds of Terrier from Scotland, the Scottish Terrier, West Highland White Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Dandie Dinmont Terrier, and Skye Terrier. Scotties and Westies in specific are very bitey puppies.

You just described a Great Dane ! They are huge ! My aunt has 1 ( used to have 2 but it had to be put down ) They are the best dogs in the world ( in my opinion ) HUGE , Loving , VERY protective . ! They also think that they are tiny lap dogs ( so expect to get sat on ) The only downfall is they have some health problems ( hip dysplasia ) but thats common in big dogs ! Anyways GET A GREAT DANE !!

I agree with one of the previous answers. An American Pitbull is a loving family dog and is surprisingly a very good dog. There is a show on Animal Planet called "Pitboss".

It shows how they rescue the pitbulls and the behavior of the pitbulls are surprisingly gentle.

It is a larger dog but most people are afraid of them. If you have any questions you can go to the site of the show.

Another good dog if you want a larger dog is a Golden Retriever. It is a good, very good family dog. I would also call a local vet to see what dogs won't aggravate allergies.

Is your dad allergic to dogs? If so, he needs to re-think this entirely, and consult with his allergist. Allergic reactions can be fatal.

If he's just allergic to dust mites (I think everyone is!), you need a single-coated dog. If you want a watchdog, I'd suggest that you look into an Airedale, Doberman Pinscher, a Standard or Giant Schnauzer or a smooth Collie.

You could get a labradoodle or golden doodle. They are mixing other breed of dogs with poodles because most people aren't allergic to poodles and poodles don't shed. Good luck.

PITBULLS! I have one. Dont isten the media and crap. They are the sweetest dogs ever and barely shed at all and are intimidating enough to keep strangers away. They were once used in the 1800s as a gurd dog for children, believe it or not! They have so much love to give.
