Landlord responsible for Mosquito infestation?

I live in an apartment community Lewisville Texas, and my apartment is continually infested with Mosquitos...

I probably kill 15-20 everyday with my hand, but no matter how many I kill, there's always more... I even try to keep my toddler quarantined in a bedroom for most of the time we're at home, we keep the door closed to this bedroom at all times...

Never the less, my 3yo currently has about 10 bites on her! And when she gets bitten, it swells up big time! Now within the past week, there have been 3 confirmed cases of human West Nile Virus in my immediate area!

I am pissed as hell! I don't pay $1,000 bucks a month in rent so I can live in an infested apartment!

I told the property management about my concerns, and they said that it's just nature and there's nothing they can do... But that's BS! I used lived in an apartment complex right across the street and never had any problem mosquitoes there... So I believe that it's their fault for creating a breeding ground for them, perhaps due to poor drainage of rain/sprinkler water...

I am so fed up with living in a mosquito infested home!!!!!!!!!!

What can I do????????? Can I force them to address this situation??? Can I force the city to address it??? I would have never moved in here if I had known I'd be subjected to these living conditions...

Update:

You people are all dumb...

Of course I keep my windows and doors closed! In fact, every time we go in or out the front door we make a concerted effort to do it as fast as possible...

To the lady who was pondering how they're getting in, I am wondering the same thing... I see one or two fly in from time to time when I enter or leave through the front door, but I don't see how this could account for the never ending stream of mosquitoes bombarding my home... Like I said, I kill about 20 of them a day, but it never ends... I also make sure not to allow them easy access to standing water such as toilets, sinks, baths, dishes, etc, in which they could multiply within my house...

To the guy that insists that this IS nature, you're an idiot... There's nothing natural about this... I take every precaution I can think of to minimize the problem, yet I'm still killing 150 mosquitoes per week in my house! And still they persist at every turn... That is not natural! That tel

Update 2:

That tells me that there must be a place on the apartment grounds where water is not draining and it is allowing them to flourish UNNATURALLY!

I've talked with some of my neighbors in my unit and they're all having the same problem... So it's obviously not something I'm doing... That said, neighbors living in buildings in different areas of the complex are not having this problem...

Roaches and rats are also creatures of "nature", but if you're infested with them, then that's a landlord issue, assuming you keep your own apartment clean and clutter-free... I still feel that this mosquito infestation is also a landlord issue...

Maybe you all would have a little more compassion if it were your 3yo daughter who had 10 huge welts on her body from mosquito bites!

And like I said, there's been 3 confirmed cases of West Nile Virus in my immediate area within the past week alone! So it's not just a nuisance, it is very much a health risk at this p

Update 3:

it is very much a health risk at this point...

You people just aren't understanding the scale of the infestation, nor are you comprehending the lengths I'm going to to try and minimize our exposure... This has been going on for months now, and I'm sick of it!

Any answers from somebody that isn't a complete moron????

Nothing you can do. 10-20 mosquitoes a day? That's nothing.

The landlord is responsible for spraying both inside and outside the building but that is all. If they do not spray regularly outside, there will be an infestation. I live in Miami Beach and the staff sprays outside daily or every night, we would be bitten to shreds. I keep a bottle of spray and wipe-on repellent and that is the best that can be done.

I am also a landlord, and if the owners are doing what I mentioned above, that is all the law requires of them. If the mosquitoes are winning, the only option is to move elsewhere. They are allowed to sprinkle the lawn even though the water attracts mosquitoes. They cannot leave pools of dirty water but you have to prove the violation if they do and complain to the city.

Sorry i can't offer more but that is all there is.

I am constantly being eating up by mosquitos & they have bitten my 5 month old. We have bought spray & sprayed inside/ out and sleep with a bug zapper in our bedroom (sad we have to be rednecks) but I am still getting bit as I type this I'm treating bites on my face. If my landlord choosing to do nothing I will be reporting them to the Better Business Burea for a slum lord. They don't spray & the insects are coming in thru our attic cause a huge horsefly flew out threw the light in our bathroom last night. We have a flat roof that collects water. Good luck to all but you do have rights not to live in these conditions. I will give an update.

So you think a landlord is now responsible for the common mosquito ? What else do you expect out of a landlord ? Perhaps the landlords are also responsible for house flies or similar ? What do you do ? Keep your doors and windows closed so that the mosquitoes cannot enter. Check around screens for any tiny openings where the bugs can enter .

Can you force them to address this situation ? Of course you cannot. Do not be silly. The landlord is correct. This IS nature, and you have to learn to deal with it.

I'm having the same problem right now in my apartment. No standing water, neighbor having the same problem, and they are a constant stream of like 1-3 mosquitoes at a time, all day. We kill them and they keep coming. We tried burning lemongrass candles, wore lavender lotion, have a fan going all the time, but we still see them just as often and have just as many bites.Did you get this problem fixed?

Im curious as to how they are getting in and staying in.? mosquitoes should be able to be gotten rid of easy. and unless you are leaving your doors and windows open, I don't see how they are coming back.
