I know it has a bit of a following, but isn't the Harry Potter series?

the biggest load of infantile tosh ever presented to the reading public?

Or did I overlook a 'deeper layer' of meaning?

Update:

@ MariaKat; Sorry, but I thought 'Tosh' meant ' foolish nonsense'. Alternatively; baloney, bilgewater, drool, humbug, tommy rot, twaddle or hokum. I wouldn't dream of calling it the word you used.

Update 2:

@Erich;No, not looking for 'lofty prose', just some sort of meaning.

Update 3:

@ Cassie; Literary criticism is important isn't it? All art IS open for discussion and there is no compulsion to vote with the majority.

Update 4:

@ Laura; I said childish, YOU said stupid.

The great success of Harry Potter wasn't that it was a great literary work. It was that it got people who usually only watch t.v. to actually read. You can't compare it to Dickens. You have to compare it to "The Bachelorette" or "Jersey Shore" or whatever other ridiculous garbage fills the average person's brain. In that case I think you will find that Harry Potter is far superior in writing to the average reality t.v. show. And far more realistic I might add.

Harry Potter and all it's fans are stupid and childish?

Well, you must be an expert on literature.

For your information, Harry Potter is popular for many reasons. It's the story of a borderline abused, underdog runt of a kid being tossed into a world he barely understands, grows up through laughter and tears, and becomes a hero and a man by the end. Many of Harry Potter's fans sort of grew up with him, and it was just a story that a lot of people identified with.

Harry Potter has a "deeper meaning" because it's more than just wands, spells, and an evil villain. It's a story about growing up, finding yourself, and changing the world. Believe it or not, Harry Potter teaches some really good values. Then there's the matter of the whole backstory to it. I mean, who would ever guess that the mean potions Professor was pretty much the catalyst for the whole entire series? It's very bittersweet.

Why, exactly, is it nonsense to you? It's way better than tWHYlight, that's for sure.

For millions of readers, Harry Potter is an exceptionaly entertaining series, full of both action, fun and emotion. As it seems, for you is "the biggest load of infantile tosh", however the Harry Potter series has been the favorite of many people so far.

It's not like you can't state your opinion. However, calling Harry Potter crap could not be considered as a polite statement.

The Harry Potter Series may be a terrible written series for you but those books made a HUGE difference... it changed lives and it made children read.

Or did you miss a story because you were looking for lofty prose in classical literature style? I ask this because people think something has to be the best of its kind ever in order to be enjoyable.

not all books have to have a hidden meaning, some books are just for reading and enjoying.A lot of

children were encouraged to read all sorts of books just because either they read Harry Potter or had it read to them, It's pure escapism and encourages imagination to flow.

Don't you have something better to do than to trash an exceptionally awesome book series?
