Blacked out computer screen?
This has been the recurring problem:
Computer is turned on and works well.
But then leaving the computer WITHOUT TURNING OFF the power
when she returns to the laptop and hits a key to reactivate
the screen stays blank. The lights showing the computer is powered are on,
yet no visual on monitor screen.
repeated tapping on keys does nothing.
Neither does it help to turn the power button on and off.
Second problem, had local computer repair shop try to fix it.
They charged 82 bucks telling me it was a virus.
When my daughter brought the computer home it worked,
but when she left it(still on) and later came back to it,
the same problem was present, no visual on screen, total black screen.
Now the so-called repair man says it's something with the mother-board.
He wants another 95 to complete repair (with a 90 day guarantee.)
I don't know whether to thank him or break the laptop over his head..;-)
Any advice, PLEASE?!
PS; Guy did say he would refund the initial cost since he didn't repair
the problem.
Thanks "wider scope", but how can I do that with the screen blank?
"Hadenou" , he's asking for $95 more on top of the 80plus I already paid.
So drop this dude? I think I will. thank you and everyone else who tried to help
later today I will also check the web-links you sent me. THANK YOU.
"Hadenou", yes,I forgot to mention I'm using my home computer, the problem computer
is a laptop belonging to my step-daughter and her daughter which the young girl uses
for school work. We are all badly pressed for money, that's what makes this problem
so vexing.

Seems to me that the computer is having a hard time coming out of hibernation. Have you looked at the settings for powering on and off? Play with them and see what happens.
hmmmm, post another question?

Could be hibernation if ll else works fine. Are you on another computer for this post?

So he is asking for 13 dollars more with a guarantee of 90 days giving you credit for 82? Take it. If he wants 95 more besides the other--drop him
Add: If your hard press for money and can' seem to fix the problem (but try geek advise on the net-go to reliable known sources. -just make sure it is someone who knows what they are talking about (so many so called experts out there)
If all else fails--If you have enough there is a place called Discount Electronics in Austin Texas- you can purchase from at a good price--they also give a guarantee. The Geek Squad often recommends them. You might even be able to just get a part that is needed--they will help you, talk to them, decide if possible. Believe it or not many have learn to do their own simple repairs some things are just a slide out piece that needs to be replaced.
But I would look at hibernation first. Could very well be. Good for Wider Scope. I had that once. And found some useful advise on the net to deal with it even when you have a blacked out screen at times..
Best wishes
