Well since I'm not from North Korea I don't have firsthand experience. Due to political persuasion, they are a very misguidance civilisation. This is nothing to do with atheism, there is no such thing as being influenced by atheism. Since atheism is just a description of a person who lacks faith in a god, there is no doctrine to be influenced by anything. Sometimes people just get corrupted by political power money greed and there worldview has absolutely nothing to do with that

I would recommend that you read "1984" by George Orwell to get an insight into the demigod status of the supreme leader(s) of the Communist/Totalitarian State. "Big Brother" demonstrates this pretty well.

The reason why totalitarian leaders must purge all religion out of the people by psychological manipulation and force is that they want to REPLACE it with politics. They worship leaders like gods, and adhere to the political party like a religion. This is a key part of totalitarianism regimes of all kinds, and without it, the regimes cannot work. They require the psychology of religious worship, manipulated and applied to suit their own means.

Most western atheists, by comparison, worship nothing.

The system in North Korea has more in common with a theocracy, the "glorious leader" being the object of unquestioning adoration demanded of the sheep.
