I have a G12 and it is excellent, the size is bit big but the image quality is amazing.

The G12, along with the Nikon P7100 are the two best compact cameras you can buy. They have larger sensors than the typical compact camera (physically about 40% larger), feature manual exposure controls, and many DSLR-like features.

They would be excellent cameras, especially if you want to step up to a DSLR some day.

Nikon makes technologically better dSLR cameras. Their compacts have a tendency to be cumbersome to apply. Aftersales provider may well be no longer straight forward to locate. Canon makes a number of the suitable lenses for his or her dSLR cameras. Their compacts are straight forward to comprehend and use. Aftersales provider may well be no longer straight forward to tackle at situations. Sony is new to dSLR technologies yet makes a number of the main interesting compacts around. maximum stated are those with Carl Zeiss lenses. Their aftersales provider is a joyride. between the three, I propose you cut down your determination to Canon and Sony. you will no longer go incorrect with any sort from them.
