Bayahibe DR for SCUBA what small town close by to stay at?

I'll be spending about two weeks in DR. at Bayahibe for SCUBA diving and relaxing.

Is there a small town near Bayahibe with quiet comfortable lodging? I'm looking for a place I can walk around in the evening and just relax. Want to learn more about the local culture and food. I only speak very basic Spanish.

I visited Santo Domingo for a friends wedding and enjoyed the country and people I met.

Bayahibe is a small fishing village so you can stay right there, Hotel Bayahibe is a nice clean hotel (not an all inclusive), or you have other options too. Another village called Dominicus, just about 5 minutes from Bayahibe, but not that many options for accommodation there, all are All Inclusive resorts.

I have a website www.discoverbayahibe.com so you can get an idea about the area from there or if you use Facebook look at my page http://www.facebook.com/discoverbayahibe I post daily weather updates (not forecasts!) and news from Bayahibe /Dominicus area. La Romana is about 25 minute drive from Bayahibe, but it's a big city so I am not sure if you would like to stay there and drive to Bayahibe every day.

You can email me directly if you have more questions to info@discoverbayahibe.com

Santo Domingo could be the capital of the Dominican Republic and the oldest European town in the Americas and in the event that you want to see one of many UNESCO World Heritage List then, that hotelbye is the place. Santo Domingo is a collection of cultures and neighborhoods. It's where the sounds of life, domino pieces smacked on tables, backfiring mufflers and horns from severe traffic. In one's heart of the city may be the Zona Colonial, wherever you will find one of many oldest churches and the oldest remaining European. Also, in the Zona Colonial you might find Gazcue, among the city's oldest neighborhoods, filled with old Victorian properties and tree-lined streets.
