Should more people take a class in firearms ?

The answer to everything else is always "education". I watch newscasters, opinion makers get fundamental facts wrong. They don't know an AK from an AR,a semi auto from a automatic.

They don't know a pistol from a revolver and certainly don't know anything about the sport od recreational shooting.

Some people just enjoy collecting and shooting military weapons, it may be what they trained with,it may be a historical interest. Just as others like shooting the firearms of the "Old West" or Black Powder or specialized high accuracy (high dollar) sniper rifles.

Marksmanship is a skill and a sport.

The individual chooses the equipment they prefer for reasons of thier own.

Nobody compares go cart racing and amature circle track racers with drunk drivers.

Im not saying you must go to the range if you don't want to.

But before you condemm something shouldn't you at least have a passing understanding of what it is ?

Update:

Rightdum,,,if you read the question you would know that I DO advocate using the range.

Theres no reason for insults, all Im saying is learn something new. If it's not for you, then so be it.

Theres nothing destructive about shooting paper targets.

MY range does not allow human shaped targets. Including the cartoon zombies that are out now.

I happen to be a journalist--radio broadcasting, thank you.

I think I can take pride in generally doing it right. TV especially tends to get the facts wrong more than print or radio. One reason is radio does very short and less in-depth.

In my opinion, a journalist should do thorough research before reporting, and that doesn't get done near enough. Gun education is certainly one area journalists could learn more.

Most firearms enthusiasts are responsible--the ones who do the crazy stuff are the exception. I don't know how best to fix the system, but taking guns away from responsible people doesn't make sense.

Perhaps we should take a look on the emphasis on violence in the movies or on television before we take guns away from law-abiding people. All indications are that media violence does far more to feed gun violence than sport shooting or collecting.

Its been proven the more guns we have the safer we all are,,,,,,,,,,,,there are towns that require all people to have guns who live there , if they don't have one when they move in, the cops go get one and bring it to them............the crime rate there is absolute ZERO

Becasue all inside and out know they can't get away with anything at all there.... so crime just stops period and goes to zero

thus proving we need more guns not less ..........if all had guns then there could be no crime

Source(s): Towns where all have guns have NO crime
