I did that trip in 6th grade. According to my mom, it was about 5000 dollars. However, I only went to Australia, so I'm assuming your's would cost even more. As far as I know, they don't offer any scholarships or financial aid. Therefore, you'd have to work out a deal to see how much your family is willing to pay for. You'll have to make up the difference. Obviously, getting a job is the best route to go, but you might not be 16 yet. If you're not, I suggest writing letters asking relatives, neighbors, and friends to donate what they can. You can even go door to door and ask for some money. Explain that you think this trip would be of great benefit to you for increasing your worldly education and that it's a once in a lifetime experience. If each house gives you like 10 bucks and you hit 100 houses, you would have knocked 1000 off the trip right there. Obviously, you will need to be very dedicated to raising the money in order to get all of it. If you have a rich relative, I would appeal the crap out of them.

People to People hold an interview to see who they'd like to select to go on the trip. I don't think anyone gets turned away, even with all of the stuff they make you do (you have to write an essay, fill out an application, get recommendations, and attend the interview). At the interview, they explain the trip in more detail. You can ask them there what the cost will be and if there's any financial aid available--but like I said, I doubt there is. People to People is just one of those countless organizations that plays upon the vanities of smart kids and their families to get them to hock up money in order to go on trips. The objective for them is profit. That being said, the trip is very cool, so if you really want to go, go for it. Just know that this trip doesn't come in handy for anything later in life. When I went, I thought that it was so prestigious that I could put the fact I was a student ambassador on like my college applications. You can't. It's really not that big a deal, and when you get older (assuming you're young) you'll get a million more letters from places just like People to People who'll tell you that you've been selected based on your smarts and will offer you cool things in exchange for inflated prices.

Also, if you'd like to know the truth, I wish I hadn't gone on that trip. I was too young to appreciate just what I was experiencing, and also, the chaperones are strict as hell. They have to be, I mean, it's a huge group of pre-teens and teenagers in a foreign country, but still, it made it wayy less fun. If I could, I would go back in time, take my 5 grand from my 12 year old self, and use it now that I'm older to go back to Australia and have a really rockin time. I'm only telling you this because I feel you should keep it in mind when trying to earn all of the money. It sounded amazing at the time for me too, but like I said, I wish I had saved all that money so that I could go now instead.

hmm... I am actually wondering the same thing.

I got a letter today, and it is inviting me to travel & study in Italy, Sicily, and Greece in the summer of 2013.

I know theres a website but it doesn't inform you of the price.

I am also curious because I read many websites, & they say this is like a scam?? To be honest- I dont know.

My mother cant afford the price because it can range from thousands of dollars(according to websites)

You can log onto their website and see costs, I believe it was around $3500, but I could be wrong!
