Christians- 2 HONEST answers required... Little confused?

I used to be Christian and I'm not judgemental but why christianity???

Given into familial/peer pressure, honestly believe, blind faith, no idea about other religious views

And why do some not all Christians strongly hate or dislike athiests (and believe in our fiery damnation)???

Fear we are right, prejeduce, cause we seem mean/judgemental/prejeduce to you (if so sorry), other reasons

    1) I used to think the same thing when I went through my 'atheist' phase as a teenager. I was a science-geek and many of my christian friends and adults in my life weren't very logical. However when I started college, and became educated I changed my mind about Christianity. Christianity is a lot more logical than I thought it was. It was backed up with historical, archaeological and even scientific evidence. I learned how many scientists actually were christian and they gave me very logical reasons as to why they believed in God. I was a science major, but I took some religious and philosophy courses on the side and learned a lot Christianity, its origins, its development, and its logic (as well as other Religions). I believe in God and the bible not because of blind faith but because of logic, reason, and even evidence.

    2) I have atheist friends I respect with all my heart, however I cannot deny that there are a lot of atheists out there who are demeaning Christians in the same manner that whites used to demean blacks. How am I supposed to feel when I hear an atheist telling me that Christians are stupid (despite the fact that my GPA was higher than theirs). Or how am I supposed to feel when they demean God, somebody who is dearer to me than my own family.... I feel angry and upset, and it becomes very clear to me why so many Christians have a hatred for atheists.

"Given into familial/peer pressure, honestly believe, blind faith, no idea about other religious views"

Amongst other things, because the attempts I hear from atheists to try and explain away the origins of Christianity sound pretty desperate, to put it at its politest.

"And why do some not all Christians strongly hate or dislike athiests"

The atheists on here seem to go out of their way to be unlikeable. They don't actually expect phrases like "sky fairy", "brainwashed" and "can't think for themselves" to endear them to theists, do they?

I know their are atheists with brains between their ears, but there are precious few of them to be found on the internet.

"(and believe in our fiery damnation)???"

Your eternal destiny is God's business, not mine.

I don't care if your atheist, that's your business.

I was agnostic, I realized that God did exist and I spent a couple of years researching religions. Pagan, Judaism, Buddhism seriously. I chose to be Christian after reading The Book of John.

I don't believe in an eternal fiery Hell. I do not fear you. I have run into some really rude atheist trolls, but it's their attitude I dislike not their lack of belief.

If you were truly a Christian then you are still a Christian. It doesn't come and go like a cold.

Not all of us Christians are judgmental. I do not hate anyone and that includes atheists, gays, Blacks, Muslims, Hispanics, Asians, Native Americans, Democrats, Progressives, or the last guy who dumped me!

First you have to ask 2 questions..

Why some people may hate other people is because everyone is different, and at the root probably doesn't have much to do with religion.

That's a good question. According to Jesus, his followers are supposed to be the salt of the earth, but apparently that message has been entirely lost today.

Cuz it's got real power, that's why. Other worldviews's impact have done little to improve my life.
