@Paul
I am in agreeance with you regarding the first church. But my point regarding the Catholic church is that it is so far off course from what Jesus Christ taught, people who follow it will have no clear idea of what being a Christian is all about. The same can be said about other churches as well. But the Catholic church has a millionaire Pope sitting on a throne claiming he is Peter reincarnated. So much for not committing idolatry.
The Pope was be the only rich man on the planet that made it through the eye of a needle.

Here is some scripture to support the Catholic Church, do you have any other Church that can stand up to the test of scripture as well as the Catholic Church?
One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church.
~~The Church is Visible
Jesus said his Church would be "the light of the world." He then noted that "a city set on a hill cannot be hid" (Matt. 5:14). This means his Church is a visible organization. It must have characteristics that clearly identify it and that distinguish it from other churches. Jesus promised, "I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). This means that his Church will never be destroyed and will never fall away from him. His Church will survive until his return.
Among the Christian churches, only the Catholic Church has existed since the time of Jesus. Every other Christian church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church. The Eastern Orthodox churches broke away from unity with the pope in 1054. The Protestant churches were established during the Reformation, which began in 1517. (Most of today’s Protestant churches are actually offshoots of the original Protestant offshoots.)
If we wish to locate the Church founded by Jesus, we need to locate the one that has the four chief marks or qualities of his Church. The Church we seek must be one, holy, catholic, and apostolic.
~~The Church Is "One"
(Rom. 12:5, 1 Cor. 10:17, 12:13, CCC 813–822)
Jesus established only one Church, not a collection of differing churches (Lutheran, Baptist, Anglican, and so on). The Bible says the Church is the bride of Christ (Eph. 5:23–32). Jesus can have but one spouse. His Church also teaches just one set of doctrines, which must be the same as those taught by the apostles (Jude 3). This is the unity of belief to which Scripture calls us (Phil. 1:27, 2:2).
~~The Church Is "Holy"
(Eph. 5:25–27, Rev. 19:7–8, CCC 823–829)
By his grace Jesus makes the Church holy, just as he is holy. This doesn’t mean that each member is always holy. Jesus said there would be both good and bad members in the Church (John 6:70), and not all the members would go to heaven (Matt. 7:21–23).
~~The Church Is "Catholic"
(Matt. 28:19–20, Rev. 5:9–10, CCC 830–856)
Jesus’ Church is called catholic ("universal" in Greek) because it is his gift to all people. He told his apostles to go throughout the world and make disciples of "all nations" (Matt. 28:19–20).
For 2,000 years the Catholic Church has carried out this mission, preaching the good news that Christ died for all men and that he wants all of us to be members of his universal family (Gal. 3:28).
The Church Jesus established was known by its most common title, "the Catholic Church," at least as early as the year 107, when Ignatius of Antioch used that title to describe the one Church Jesus founded. Ignatius was a disciple of St. John the apostle.
~~The Church Is "Apostolic"
(Acts 1:23-26, Eph. 2:19–20, CCC 857–865)
The Church Jesus founded is apostolic because he appointed the apostles to be the first leaders of the Church, and their successors were to be its future leaders. The apostles were the first bishops, and, since the first century, there has been an unbroken line of Catholic bishops faithfully handing on what the apostles taught the first Christians in Scripture and oral Tradition (2 Tim. 2:2).
Jesus assured the apostles and their successors, the popes and the bishops, "He who listens to you listens to me, and he who rejects you rejects me" (Luke 10:16). Jesus promised to guide his Church into all truth (John 16:12–13).
Peace be with your spirit

We aren't off at all. Have you read the writings of the earliest church fathers? They speak of a Eucharist that people share where they all believe it's REALLY Jesus' body. They also speak of a "Catholic" church, infant baptism, particular times for prayer services, Jesus being God and Mary being a perpetual virgin. All these were taught by ONE church which was named the Catholic Church.
The Pope is not a millionaire. Though he lives in the Vatican, he doesn't own it nor can he sell anything in it. He owns very little even though he's surrounded by priceless artwork. There is no throne made out of gold. But since the Pope is God's representative on earth (NOT Peter incarnate), he dresses in public to show that. Why did God personally command his first priest, Aaron, to wear priestly robes covered with precious gems? For God's glory, obviously, not Aaron's glory. So the popes do the same. Aaron, like the popes, are in a priestly position so they dress the part.
And the rich man comment, if you knew so much about the bible you'd know that comment was made because of the way people were becoming rich back then. Remember the tax collectors and how they made money

What is a true Christian anyway? Let me tell you a quick story. When I became Catholic, my two best friends sat down and wrote me a long, long letter telling me how pagan the Catholic Church was in hopes that I would flee back to the arms of the Evangelical Protestants. Guess what? I'm a big "go to the source" kinda gal, so I decided to check out pre-Christian or Pagan religions. That did it for me. After 40 years as a Christian, and serving as Christian teacher and clergy, I became pagan and never looked back. I expected to miss the Church. I never have, even once, and Jesus was my best friend. People tell me I couldn't have been a "real" Christian. Really? I healed in his name, I taught, and preached, and visited the sick and the poor. But once my paradigm changed, God and Jesus just became completely irrelevant to me. Literally overnight. My life is happy, successful, and filled with the Spirit. I'm still a healer and a mystic. I still use my gifts of "knowledge" and "wisdom" and "prayer," only they have different names now. I love everyone and don't spew hate and judgment on everybody and threaten them with hell. So what do you know of Christianity? Your Bible says, "Judge not lest ye be judged."

You are a bit confused. The original Christian Church, the only Church founded by Jesus Christ, the only Christian Church that existed for the first 1,000 years of Christianity, IS truly Christian. Jesus clearly said that the Church He founded was to remain ONE. So obviously, no unauthorized manmade church founded 1500 to 2000 years later can call itself truly Christian. Where is that verse again, where Jesus described His Church as a manmade tradition of thousands of conflicting denominations who follow only the Bible, and can't agree with one another on the meaning of a single Bible passage?? Seems to me He said that His followers were to remain ONE in belief, ONE in teaching, ONE in worship - just as the Holy Catholic Church has done for 2,000 years, and will do until the end of time.

+ Homosexuality + The Catholic Church believes there may be nothing sinful about being homosexual. However homosexuals like every single men and women are called to celibacy. Unmarried cohabiting couples, whether heterosexual or gay, are living in sin. + Adoptions + The difficulty at hand is that Catholic adoption organizations within the England and Wales handle about one-third of all exclusive adoptions. The Catholic Church by and large areas orphans with married (heterosexual) couples. Folks who're residing as our religion believes God meant. There is a new legislation taking outcomes in April that says that the adoption agencies will have got to situation children with homosexual couples. Catholics believe that now not simplest it's not within the great curiosity of the baby to position them in an environment of immorality and sin that if they comply with the legislation then they themselves will probably be sinning in the method. Catholic doctors should not pressured to participate in abortions. Catholic prison employees aren't forced to execute prisoners. Catholics are usually not compelled to commit what they believe to be sinful acts in some other part of society. What happened to freedom of faith? + With love in Christ.

I guess you are calling Jesus Christ a liar then.
Jesus established the Catholic Church in 33AD. For over 2,000 years the Catholic Church has preached the complete fullness of Jesus Christ.
Catholicism is true Christianity. Jesus established the Catholic Church in 33AD,not 38,000 denominations, or non denominations as in Protestant Christianity. As for Catholic Christians we believe in the following:
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man,
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Even tho Catholic and Protestants both believe in and worship the same God , the Protestant churches have a more watered down version of Christ. The Protestant churches only recognize 2 of the 7 Sacraments that Jesus gave to His church.
With the 38,000 denominations of Protestant Christians their beliefs are all different being that all have a different interpretation of the bible.
The Catholic Church compiled and canonized the Holy Bible is the 4th century.

In addition to what XAndrewX said, all of which is true (as far as the Christian bible and faith are concerned and I say that because actually I'm Wiccan) Christ also said to Simon,
"Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, He began asking His disciples, saying, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?" 14 And they said, "Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. 15 He *said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God." 17 And Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it. 19 "I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." 20 Then He warned the disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ," (Matt. 16:13-20).
That church that Simon Peter 'built' is the CATHOLIC church - JESUS's church - and anyone who professes to be Christian but disses the Catholic church is dissing Jesus. That is the ONLY CHURCH and the ONLY Christian "religion" that had a by-line: I'm Jesus Christ, Son of God, and I approve THIS CHURCH!!

The content of the links cover a diverse range of things from the criticism that:
"The Church teaches the practice of chastity. It interprets this to mean that believers should eschew sexual activity outside of heterosexual marriage, and that no persons inside or outside of marriage may practice masturbation, sodomy and homosexual practices "
to scriptural ignorance and liberal myths that stem from not being pro-gay rights.
Rather than just pointing to a bunch of negative links why not give your reasons so that they can easily be answered?

I am a true Christian, and attend a Catholic Church as well, we still worship God and Jesus. But I don't pray to Mary or saints.
