Can a felony conviction barr someone from voting forever?
I am dating someone that has a felony from years ago in college. He got a suspended sentence and probation, but was convicted. This happened in 1994. Can you vote today? He always tells me he votes and I"m wondering if that can be possible?
This was in North Carolina
Thank you

North Carolina General Statutes (N.C.G.S.) Section 163-55(a)(2) prohibits convicted felons from voting until the state restores the felons' voting rights.
BUT
N.C.G.S.Section 13-1 requires North Carolina to restore a felon's voting rights when the felon has completed his sentence, including any applicable probation or parole period.
BUT
none of tha has anything to do with voting in Federal only elections.
There is a bi partisan movement in Congress to restore voting rights but has been stalled by a Texas congressman's instances that it also restore gun rights federally.
Gun rights for felons have been up to individual states since the mid 1980's.

it actual relies upon on what state you're in. In maximum states once you serve it sluggish your voter rights are restored, some states under no circumstances permit you vote back and a few states refuse to honor the restoration of your balloting from yet another state.
