Is religion a necessary evil?

Less homophobia.

Less justification for wrong-doings.

No holy wars.

No religious terrorists.

No discrimination against atheists.

No forced conversions.

Essentially, the world would be just like it is now, except without the obnoxiously loud preachings about hellfire and damnation.

While more evil has been committed in the name of various religions than any other "ism", it is necessary in that it provides a standard of behavior, a threshold level of acceptable conduct. Humanity needs that, otherwise there is chaos.

[But since I mentioned 'ism's', it is a solid fact that in the 20th century communism (in all its forms) killed or directly caused the deaths of 275 million people.]

It is going to happen so it says in the Bible. Jesus will return and take the throne of David and rule the earth for 1000 years. No Islam, no any religion only God

some people just find ways to bastardize religion and use it toward their own gain

I think if the world didn't have religion... people would try to find answers and logic to quench every single question they have... also i think if humans abandon religion real corruption can manifest with politics...money..etc
