Problem with subwoofers?

I have 2 jl audio w3 12's that work great! well worked great up until Friday. Ever since then they have been sounding weird. I don't believe they are blown because they aren't popping or anything and they do hit every now and then. There is also known burnt smell. But most the time it wont hit at all or it hits good then fades out then hits good again. My system wasn't even loud when I noticed this, it was at about 21. They are hooked up to a legacy predator 4000 watt amp, that is turned way down. all wires and connections are good inside the box and running to the amp. I have no idea what could be wrong with them because they have been working fine on this same set up for over a year. Any idea what the problem could be?

They are on their way to being blown, no coming back. I was a huge jl fan, up until I was enlightened to the fact that there's way better stuff out there for a fraction of the cost and the fact that I ent thru more than half a dozn subs in two years. Jl subs hit hard and great spl, but they dontlast. I moved on to diamond audio and sundown and re audio subs andnever looked back or have had to purchase any more subs

It could be a number of things like the impedance of your subs not match the amp,or maybe that amp is too powerful for your subs.

Well whatever it may be, I would get another amp for those subs.

I'm sure that Legacy amp is not a old school (the good ones) but one from the crappy newer versions.

Those are nice subs you have so my advice is to find a better amp for them.

Make sure you get a amp that would match the sub's impedance (like dual 2 ohm or 4 ohm etc.) and rms power (continous) ratings.

Otherwise, take your system to a experienced prof.

    hope I helped a little:)
