Invisalign Questions?

I had braces for almost 5 years from 5th grade to 10th grade. I had them for so long because during that time I sucked my thumb and my orthodontist just took them off since I didn't stop, but my teeth came out pretty straight. It's been a few years now and I continue to suck my thumb but have cut down on it a lot and now want to straighten my teeth again, but they aren't that far off from when I got my braces removed since Ive worn my retainers most nights since I've had no braces. Both braces and invasalign are expensive, I think invasalign is more expensive, but I don't want to have to deal with braces again and the embarrassment of having them at my age. Will I have to have many treatments of invisalign if I decide to get it? (Ive done some research on it about treatments and different retainers and what not) And do I get it done through my same orthodontist? Because he's very good and a family friend. And will it work and how long will it take? My teeth aren't very far from straight, but I have a bit of an overbite. Thanks

Braces alone to fix a dental overbite can worsen your facial profile. It's called the Sydney Smile.

Jaw surgery (in combination with braces) for correction of dental overbite and jaw correction surgery is best explained by looking at this video that explains how jaw asymmetry, TMJ (temporo mandibular joint or jaw joint) problems, facial profile, dental occlusion, and airway can all be improved by orthognathic surgery.

Yes, go back to the same orthodontist. He knows your history and can advise if Invisalign is even appropriate.

However, don't bother to do anything until you stop sucking your thumb. You are creating damage to your teeth. You spent five year in braces already. That should be enough incentive to stop.

Look, you are almost an adult. Thumb sucking is something babies do. You are talking about the "embarrassment of having (braces) at my age". You should be thinking about the embarrassment of sucking your thumb at your age. Spend the next 30 days with a rubber band around your wrist. Each time you find yourself wanting to suck your thumb, give the band a good hard pop. You have got to stop that habit.

You may or may not need them. You will haveto go to an orthodontist that does invisalign. Not all orthos do invisalign, you should find out if he does do them. If not look at other orthos. When you find one book a consoultation to see if your sutied for the invisalign. If they say no try another place. I tried this one place and they said no then i went to a diffferent place and they said yes so i currently have invisalign. Your dentist will estimate how long the treatment will be. Yes i will work i didnt really see a difference with the first 2 traies and when i started the third that was when i started seeing a difference. It will fix an overbite with elastics.
