Should you ask a priest's blessing in public?
This question is addressed to Orthodox Christians. I have read some Orthodox sources that sort of frown upon open displays of religion in secular settings, so I was wondering if this extends to asking a priest's blessing, since this is the proper way to start and end a conversation with a priest. I ask because I will be meeting with my priest at lunch tomorrow, and I don't want to do this if it will make him feel uncomfortable. Please excuse my ignorance. I am still a catechumen.

I think your lunch has already happend?
It is OK to ask your priest to bless you, anywhere!
If he feels it is not appropriate he will tell you so.
Ask him to bless you before your lunch, ask him to bless the lunch, and ask him to bless you after the lunch. I am sure he will do it, if not he will tell you why not.
I hope that I answered your question, if not feel free to contact mee.

Well, I live in a predominantly Roman Catholic country. Some priests (Orthodox) like to go out with their children with a cassock put on ;)
If you feel comfrtable - ask. If you don't - don't.
