I am not good at anything!?
I'm a rising Junior in HS. Everyone around me and all my friends seem to have their thing that their good at and passionate about. except me. One of my friends sculpts and has exhibits in big museums. my other friend sings very well. I do technical theatre and I get so jeaous watching the talented actors singers and dancers on stage. I have friends who aren't excellent at what they do but they're passionate about it and it shows. I don't have anything like that. I am not good at anything. The only thing good about me is my cumlative average of 99. But I don't feel like being good at school and being a full AP student is a talent. I think it is just something that is expected. I wanna do something that I can be good and passionate about but because of my age, everyone is telling me it is too late to start a new sport or skill and still be good. I've done cross country for the past 2 years and I am 2nd to last on a team of 60 and all the people make fun of me for it. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna do gymnastics but everyone says that even 12 years old is too late for that none-the-less 17years old and also I can't find any local gyms that have an older boys program. I also want to try lacrosse but our team is so good I wouldn't make it past try outs. The freshman team doesnt have try outs and thats where most people began so now it's too late for me to learn. Any ideas on stuff I can try that is realistic? Also I don't like photography and Art doesn't interest me. And don't you dare say collect something because that is stupid.

Nobody is good at everything, but everyone is good at something. You might be surprised at what other people think about you, wishing they could be as good as you are in school. To be good at something, you have to enjoy it. You won't know whether you enjoy it unless you try it. If you do enjoy something, do it for pleasure, not to be better than anyone else. If you are second to last on the cross country and htey make fun of you, just think how hard it is for the person who is last.
OK, so here are some things you might like to try:
badminton
squash
carving/woodwork, or making furniture in wood
metalwork
electronics
yoga or Pilates
modern dance
astronomy
growing crystals (you need to make a supersaturated solution to start the crystals)
playing a musical instrument: guitar, piano, flute, clarinet, oboe, violin, cello
stage make-up - for the theatrical productions in which your are involved
lighting for the theatre
making videos (how to do various things, and post them on YouTube).
It is nonsense to say it is too late to start and be good; you might not be a top sports star, but that is a hard life and a short career, and when it is over what have you got to show for it? Much better to do something you enjoy so you can look forward to doing. You could post in a blog about your progress and get comments from other people who are interested in the same things, and share ideas with them.

Why not stick to Technical Theatre? I realize that since you're not on the stage the audience doesn't actually see you, but I spent four years as the Stage Manager (I'm not sure what position you are in, but regardless) in my High School and every time I would start wishing that I could be on the stage, something would happen that would remind me that all Technical Theatre positions are essential to any production. Without you, the show would not be able to function. As the saying goes
Actors with out techies are naked people standing on an empty stage in the dark, but techies without actors are people with marketable skills (no offense to any actors out there hahaha)
If it's something that you've been doing there has to be a reason behind it so stick with it.

I am a girl around your age so I can say two really great fairly easy activities are sewing and crocheting but as a boy you might not be interested. I do know of boys that do those things so don't scoff just yet. Hooks are very inexpensive as well as yarn. I reccommend cotton or wool. And as far as all those things like lacrosse you say you can't do, might as well go for it, maybe get a friend who is good to train you in what's left of the summer, and when tryouts come sign up. Just don't get stuck in this whole I'm not good at anything mindset, it will not do you any good.

And I agree that it's total nonsense to say it's too late to start most anything and be good at it, or enjoy it tremendously. I like this quote too:
The woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best. ...Henry Van Dyke
And there's much more info gathered here, especially for those who think they "don't measure up," etc. http://glassattic.com/polymer/creativity,inspir,ar... (click on Creativity & Inspiration)
