  • Stability Shoes, gimmic?

Today I went to my local running store, Fleet Feet to get a new pair of shoes for Cross Country. When I went there, they insisted that I needed stability shoes. I have run in a pair before and I find them bulky, annoying, unappealing, and uncomfortable. I have also run in minimalist shoes and neutral shoes. Oddly, I ran the fastest in my minimalist shoes. Also, in those shoes, I had no pain or injury. On the contrary, in stability shoes, I have had the most pain and injury. I will admit I overpronate a lot so I see why they suggest stability shoes, but I can't stand it.

I was wondering if any of you running experts or smarty-pants could suggest what is best for me. I understand that stability shoes are probably the "healthiest" choice for the long term health of my feet/legs however, would running in neutral shoes be devastating for someone who overpronates? Also, do they just insist the stability shoes because they are more expensive and bring in more revenue for the store? thanks

  • Overpronating Running Shoes?

I have wide feet and I tend to overpronate when running. I got shoes with really strong arch support to stop me from overpronating and they work well for that; however, they are bulky and rather uncomfortable to run in.

I was wondering about the shoes that stop overpronating, do I have to always wear them or do they train my meet so after X amount of months running in them, my problem is fixed and I can return to normal shoes? thanks

  • How long should I wait to check lymph nodes?

    Hello All,

4 days ago I noticed that my left inguinal lymph nodes were enflammed, huge, and solid as a rock. I thought it'd go down in a day or two but its been 5 days now and I am starting to worry. Maybe lymphoma or something? It isn't necessarily painful when touched but it is discomfort (probably just from the pressure).

How long should I wait before going to the doctor to get it checked. I am in the process of shifting insurance plans right now so I am not covered at the moment and would have to pay out of pocket for the dr. appointment.

So after how many days of it persisting should I wait before it is considered important enough to see the doctor? Thanks.

  • Yonger dog jealous of older?

So I have two dogs. Both are adopted mutts from the humain society. They are german shepard mixes.

The older is Shepard - Ridgeback, 6 years old and 60lbs (female)

the younger is Shepard - Great dane (we think) 3 years old and 50lbs (female)

The older dog is obviously the alphafemale by the way they play and interact. The only issue is the younger one gets jealous of the older one. When ever I give the older one attention, the younger one comes over, licks the older ones muzzle/face and starts a fight.

How do I stop the jealousy so I can spend time with my older one and giver her the attention she used to have with out the younger one literally getting in the middle.

The older one respects when I give time to the younger one and I give spend pretty equal time with the two so it isn't that the younger one is deprived of my affection.

    Thanks!

  • Help with depression?

    Hey guys

I am 16 and a rising junior. I am very depressed for several reasons. One is that I am not good at anything. Few activities interest me and two of which that do, I wanna do em but everyone and everything says it is too late to start at my age: Gymnastics and Lacrosse. For my school's team for lacrosse, there are tryout and I have ever played before so I wouldnt be able to make the team. The freshman team is the only one without try outs but obiviously I am two years too late for that. Also for gymnastcs, everyone sys you're supposed to begin when you're like 8. Going on 17 will be way too late. Also I cannot find a gym around me that offers a program for older boys like me with no prior skill.

With the olympics going on, I am seeing all these people who are great at stuff and i get so envious. Also theres a thing going on now in my area called GHP (govenors honors program) and this is where the top 25 people in the entire state for certain subjects get to go to a camp to work on it. A lot of my friends are going. One went for Art-Sculpting the other for chemistry, the other for spanish. and another for biology.

I just wanna do something and be good at it. I know it's too late to be one of the best and I don't expect it, I just wanna be decent at whatever it may be. Anyone hve suggestions? I am not artistic and not good with electronics.

Another reason I'm upset is because school begins in 2 weeks and I have 5 AP classes that I dunno how I'm going to juggle.

One additional issue is that I have like no friends. I talk to people at school but I don't hang out with anyone outside of school. this whole summer I just sat at home on the couch and when I would try to invite someone to hang out, they'd come up with a lame excuse.

Adding onto the point above. I am on class council and thus this year I am organizing prom. I won't have anyone to take to prom. I am gay and no gays exist at my school and all the people I talk to at school and who I loosely call friends are all girls and have boyfriends they plan to go with.

The next point is that I am not very attractive physically. I'm not ugly but I'm not attractive. And I have a weird accent. No one knwos what it is. I've had it since birth and no one in my family has it. Both parents are from philly and speak like normal americans but I have some undistinguished one.

Anyone know steps to take to help make me happy. I've tried just doing it internally but it looks like i need some external help too. I can't get antidepressants because my parents don't know I am depressed. When I am around people I put on a facade of being totally happy. And it works, I've won titles at school as the "nicest person in the class" and "most approachable" so I don't wanna let the facade down. I cry myself to sleep every night and when I wake up, I wait for my parents and brother to leave the house then I cry all day. help

  • I am not good at anything!?

I'm a rising Junior in HS. Everyone around me and all my friends seem to have their thing that their good at and passionate about. except me. One of my friends sculpts and has exhibits in big museums. my other friend sings very well. I do technical theatre and I get so jeaous watching the talented actors singers and dancers on stage. I have friends who aren't excellent at what they do but they're passionate about it and it shows. I don't have anything like that. I am not good at anything. The only thing good about me is my cumlative average of 99. But I don't feel like being good at school and being a full AP student is a talent. I think it is just something that is expected. I wanna do something that I can be good and passionate about but because of my age, everyone is telling me it is too late to start a new sport or skill and still be good. I've done cross country for the past 2 years and I am 2nd to last on a team of 60 and all the people make fun of me for it. I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanna do gymnastics but everyone says that even 12 years old is too late for that none-the-less 17years old and also I can't find any local gyms that have an older boys program. I also want to try lacrosse but our team is so good I wouldn't make it past try outs. The freshman team doesnt have try outs and thats where most people began so now it's too late for me to learn. Any ideas on stuff I can try that is realistic? Also I don't like photography and Art doesn't interest me. And don't you dare say collect something because that is stupid.

  • Honestly, is it too late to begin gymnastics?

Hey! So I am 16 (boy) and I've always wanted to do gymnastics. I know you're supposed to begin young however you don't realize what you want til your older. So I am flexible and fit. I run cross country and do theatre. Anyways is 16 too late for a boy to begin competitive gymnastics? Also would I have to train with young kids in the begining to build a base? Thanks! Also feel free to give me any more pertinant information you think I'd find benefitial! Oh also is it impossible for me at this point to potentially participate in the olympics, It's also been a dream of mine

  • Not return home from Vacation?

Hey! So next week I am going to France for vacation for two weeks.I am 16 and going with friends and a french woman who is a family friend to supervise. I obviously have all the legal stuff to go yadda yadda. But my question is, hypothetically obviously,

    1) if I do not return in the 90 days alotted with a passport, what are the realistic chances I'd be chased by the police. I know it's illegal but would the police acctually actively chase after me?

    2) If I am in france for less than 90 days then go to another country in EU with my passeport, do the days reset and back at day 1 for each country or is the law 90 days anywhere outside the USA.

    3) If I am already in France, whats the best way to stay in EU and begin a new life as a minor. I do have places to stay and have several contacts of people in france, england, and even Switzerland and Hungary.

    4) Final question is, who deals with internation travel laws? If its the UN, my uncle works in a high spot for the Haag and could pull strings.

  • Improve Cross Country times.?

I'm a sophomore in high school and running Cross Country for my school's team for the first time. I started workouts in may with the team. Before that I never was really active and I couldn't even run a mile when I began without stopping. Now on the long days I can run 6 miles without stopping, but not fast. I've done 3 races already. 26:06 26:03 and 26:10 (the last one was the hardest race of the season, it was extremely hilly). Anyways, I am last on my team for the boys and it's very embarassing. There is this freshman who joined a week before the season who never ran before and beats me by 3-4 minutes. My issue isn't pains or muscle exhaustion, it is that my heart can't keep up and I run out of breath to soon into the race. How do I improve stamina so I can run at a faster pace for longer. At practice the coaches say don't give it your all cuz youll be tired the day of the race. Any suggestions to dropping my times a lot so I'm not the last one in the races?

  • Diet to lose belly fat?

I'm looking to shed a few pounds so that way I lose my round belly. Here's a summery of me to help you help me plan one. I'm 16, male. I'm not over weight, only 138lbs at 5'8" but my stomach isn't as flat as i'd like it to be. I have the cardio part of losing weight because I run cross country for my schools team. I do about 5 miles on average per day, six days a week. Some days I run a little more. I don't eat healthy at all. Mostly burgers, chicken tenders, buffalo wings, etc.. I don't want to try the standard "Salad Diet" because don't get me wrong, I love salads, but as I said, I run cross country and salads don't give me enough energy to run well. So pretty much I want a diet that will help me lose the last of my stomach fat but yet still provide enough energy to run cross country well. Thanks!!

I want to do stuff online but Hide my IP so people can't track this, at first I thought of buying / downloading a Hide IP service from the internet but Couldn't I was thinking: Could I just go to a local library and use their computer, therefore if someone were to track my IP they wouldn't know it was me specifically?
