Improve Cross Country times.?
I'm a sophomore in high school and running Cross Country for my school's team for the first time. I started workouts in may with the team. Before that I never was really active and I couldn't even run a mile when I began without stopping. Now on the long days I can run 6 miles without stopping, but not fast. I've done 3 races already. 26:06 26:03 and 26:10 (the last one was the hardest race of the season, it was extremely hilly). Anyways, I am last on my team for the boys and it's very embarassing. There is this freshman who joined a week before the season who never ran before and beats me by 3-4 minutes. My issue isn't pains or muscle exhaustion, it is that my heart can't keep up and I run out of breath to soon into the race. How do I improve stamina so I can run at a faster pace for longer. At practice the coaches say don't give it your all cuz youll be tired the day of the race. Any suggestions to dropping my times a lot so I'm not the last one in the races?

Not everyone can be fast in XC, it may just be something you're not good at. 26 minutes for a 5k is extremely slow. If you're really serious about improving though, just increase mileage by about 3-5 miles per week, make sure your body can handle it. If you're overweight, try to lose a few pounds as it would help with running. I've seen people with your time end up getting it down to about 21-22 minutes, but it took them years and a ton of training. It's possible but you're going to have to put in a lot of work.

The greatest factor to be able to support top college go nation runners is constructing a base over the summer time. Run five-6 instances per week at the same time setting up modest miles (30-forty per week will have to be greater than ample). One day per week, despite the fact that, attempt to do a little shorter distance period/fartlek runs. A exercise like a million minute tough, a million minute handy X 10 as soon as each and every week will do wonders. Don't be disenchanted if you do not bounce the entire method right down to sub sixteen on your junior 12 months. I did not holiday sixteen until the top of my senior season.
