I'm back! And I got some Hockey Questions?

So after giving up on Holland making any big moves this year......I started to look at the 2013 UFA list. There is a LOT more talent up for grabs next off season, with most likely All 30 NHL teams trying to make some kind of offers to. Yes, I know it's a year away.....but I'll ask this question anyways :)

Some Big namers on the UFA list in 2013 are Corey Perry, Jarome Iginla, Ryan Getzlaf, Scott Hartnell, and Alexander Semin. I'll also include the Full list:

http://www.capgeek.com/free_agents.php?year_id=201...

QUESTIONS:

1. Who would you want your team to pick up out of all of these Big Namers (Besides a/the player(s) on your team that will become an UFA in 2013)

2. If you do have a player that will become a UFA in 2013 on your team as of right now, Would you part with him? Why or Why not?

3. Who will be the #1 most sought after UFA in 2013? (example: Brad Richards in 2011, Zach Parise & Ryan Suter in 2012).

BQ* How confident do you feel about your team going into the 2012/2013 season? And why do you feel this way?

Thanks! :)

    1. I would love to see the 'Canes pick up a strong goal scoring winger like Iginla or Perry, someone who can also be a leader and occasionally drop the gloves. Hartnell would be an interesting signing too as someone who could protect our players - Skinner - when other teams are roughing them up.

As for the non big names, I would love to see Matt Cullen return to the 'Canes. Second favorite player from the '06 Cup team other than Brindy. And to help the defense, big right shot defenseman Ryan O'Byrne from Colorado would be a great pickup and could be the long missed partner for Joni Pitkanen.

    2. Can't say. Our 2013 UFA is Alex Semin. Personally and currently, I love the signing as JR has finally gone out and gotten not one but two big name, top 6 players this offseason and Semin didn't even cost any of our players or prospects. If he plays as well as I think and hope he does, then I say we should bring him back on a two, three, or four year contract.

As for the non-big name 'Canes 2013 UFAs, Anthony Stewart can go as far as I'm concerned; not really sure where I stand on Tim Brent. He's a fourth line center so he's technically easily replaceable but it's not like he hasn't done a decent job. I love Chad LaRose but both he and Pat Dwyer are going to be UFAs and they play similar games and I only see one coming back with Bowman having earned a spot on the third line. If Corvo plays well on defense he can stay another year or two.

    3. I would say Getzlaf for sure, if he's not resigned by the Ducks. Teams would love to have a big, strong, elite center like him - especially in Toronto. We could be seeing a very different Ducks lineup in 2013-14. Bobby Ryan might be traded, Perry and Getzlaf could be lost to free agency, and the Finnish Flash could retire - though I hope he never does.

BQ* I feel great about my team. The defense is sub-par as usual, but on paper, this is the best forward group I've seen since 2005-06 and the top 6 looks even better than that season. Love to see that JR went out and actually got some players for once. With Eric and Jordan Staal, Semin, Skinner, Tuomo Ruutu, and either Jussi Jokinen or Tlusty depending on how the lines are set for the top 6, this team looks ready to score some goals.

Iginla so he can finish his NHL career with the team smart enough to draft him and the stars clearly do not care about signing players on the older side of the carreer so lets sign him!

    2. If you do have a player that will become a UFA in 2013 on your team as of right now, Would you part with him? Why or Why not?

Bredon Morrow, not sure if the stars are going to resign him or not. he isnt such a great player anymore he is more a mascot then anything..

    3. Who will be the #1 most sought after UFA in 2013? (example: Brad Richards in 2011, Zach Parise & Ryan Suter in 2012).

    David Van Der Gulik

9th place matirial yet again! That being said I have the upmost confidence that they will win the cup...

    1) None. Toronto doesn't get big name UFA's. They won't give long term deal and they're not a winning team.

    2) Joffrey Lupul. I WOULD NOT part with him as of right now. He was arguably the best all around player on the Leafs last year and his chemistry on the top line with Kessel is too valuable. I would make re-signing Lupul a top priority, as long as he has a similar season to what he had in 2011-12.

    3) Ryan Getzlaf. Big, legitimate number one centre. Lots of teams are looking for those.

BQ - Not too confident. But if the CBA doesn't work out and we get half a season, then I'm more confident. The Leafs are the masters of playing well for half a season.

  • 1) Getzlaf. The Leafs need a #1C. That would be Getzlaf; he has a history with Brian Burke. Iginla goes to a team looking for that final piece in the puzzle. Semin would be a good complimentary piece.

    2) Lupul and Lombardi become UFA's in 2013. Lupul has been great...Lombardi was the cost of getting rid of Brett Lebda.

    3) Iginla. Future HHOFer, solid power forward. If they have cap space I could see a team like PIT going after him.

BQ: Not too good, but I'm happy to not see the Leafs spend like drunks on July 1st. The JVR for Schenn was a good hockey trade. If FLA gets Luongo I'd love to see the Leafs try to get Theodore for cheap.

    1. Ryan Getzlaf, a line of Lupul - Getzlaf - Kessel would be great. And if we get Getzlaf, Perry will also likely sign with us.

    2. The best UFA from the Leafs will be Joffrey Lupul, if he puts up another season like this one I really hope we get him signed long term.

    3. It'll be Getzlaf and Perry tied for first, with Edler in second.

BQ: Not really confident, we need a goalie, and a few roster upgrades. I hope we either make the playoffs or finish dead last and draft Nathan MacKinnon.

    1. Getzlaf would be a great pick up

    2. John Scott. He is like our only FA, and it is always good to have a 6'8'' enforcer for playing against teams like Boston. (EDIT: Robyn Regher too! Forgot about him)

    3. Probably Corey Perry or Scott Hartnell

BQ: VERY confident. There was too much buzz around the team last year, but now we can fly under the radar again and be a lower seed and make it to the playoffs. I think we have a very balanced team that can do some pretty good things this year.

Source(s): EDIT: @GLG: You didn't actually think Connolly was going to be good, right?
  • 1. Getzlaf

    2. lupul & steckel the rest are replaceable and probably one will get traded at the deadline.

    3. Getlaf & Perry. Iginla will be this years down

Bq: I would be more confident if burke got a veteran goalie to back up reimer. Right now im doubtful they make the playoffs

    1) Ryan Getzlaf, number one centre and Toronto Maple leafs aren't normally in the same sentence.

    2) Here they are:

    - Tim Connolly: GOODBYE

    - Joffrey Lupul: I re-sign him whether or not he has a good season, he is a great presence.

    - Matt Lombardi: GOODBYE

    - Clarke MacArthur: I definitely re-sign him

    - Tyler Bozak: I re-sign him, and he's good trade bait.

    - Dave Steckel: I re-sign him, great face-off guy, plumber, bottom six player.

    - Colton Orr: I wouldn't re-sign him

    - Ryan Hamilton: He's producing well at the AHL level, so yes

    - Keith Aucoin: No, don't even know why we signed him.

    3) It's going to definitely be Corey Perry.

I feel good, there's a lack of a number one centre and number one goalie, but I feel like someone either in the main roster in the system will assume one of those roles, and i think it will be the goalie spot. Because I believe in James Reimer.
