Thoughts on the "Russian Five" Reuniting for the 2013 NHL Winter Classic Alumni Game?

Well, as of right now, it's only Four. Larionov, Fetisov, and Federov will be playing for the Detroit Red Wings vs The Toronto Maple Leafs for the Alumni game. Konsintinov will also be attending, but Kozlov is Iffy right now depending on the 2012/2013 KHL Schedule. In addition to the Russian 5 (Or 4)....The "Grind Line" will also be playing. Kris Draper, Darren McCarty and Kirk Maltby. Not to mention Luc Robitaille and my favorite player ever, Chris Chelios. So, any thoughts on how completely cool this is? I for one, am excited.

Full List:

Questions:

1. Who in your opinion was the best player out of the Russian 5?

2. Anyone dissapointed in this years list for the Alumni Roster? Anyone missing? I personally think it would have been cool if Stevie Y and now Lidstrom could have played in it.....

3. If your team hasn't had a Winter Classic yet, who are your Top 3 players you would want on your Alumni Roster? If your team already has played in the Winter Classic, what players were you most excited to see play again?

    1) Sergei Fedorov is the best in my opinion. He's the all time leader in Russian scoring and he has been such a consistent player for so long in this league which, as we all know, is so hard to maintain.

    2) Lidstrom for me would be too early. Definitely Yzerman should be there he's one of the greatest Wings of all-time. I would have like to have seen Norm Ullman, and Rogie Vachon added. Ullman was one of the most prolific scorers in Red Wing history, and Vachon was one of their best goalies. Also Dominik Hasek could have worked as well. Brett Hull could have been a cnadidate, and i dont know if Howe would be physically capable but Gordie Howe should at least have been thought of, im sure he was.

On the Toronto Roster I would like to see:

    Dave Keon

    Borje Salming

    Frank Mahovlich

Bob Pulford (if he could make it)

    3) Well my team is Toronto but my top 3 to see would be:

    First: Mats Sundin

    Second: Darryl Sittler

    Third: Doug Gilmour

Source(s): btw it's confirmed that Tie Domi and Mats Sundin will play in it

    1) Federov

    2) I think it is a great list becuase of the talent they were able to chose from with such a great history. I agree about Lindstrom and Yzerman.

    3) The Sabres had a Winter Classic, obviously, but no alumni game. I would love to see Mogilny and LaFontaine play together. I'd also love to see a reunited French Connection, but unfortunately, Rick Martin passed away in March of last year (RIP Rico!).

So what? lol look the Leafs roster so far

Darryl Sittler, Vincent Damphousse, Doug Gilmour, Wendel Clark, Rick Vaive, Darcy Tucker, Felix Potvin, Mike Palmateer, Kevin Maguire, Dave Andreychuk, Curtis Joseph, Johnny Bower, Ron Ellis, Jim McKenny, Gary Leeman.

Seeing Dougie, Wendel, and Andreychuk, and Potvin on the ice together is a dream come true.

I don`t know if Sundin will be there but he would be a great addition.

    1. Gonna be different from most people here and say Konstantinov was the best, or rather, had the potential to be the best of the Russian Five. Shame his career had to end the way it did. I watched some of his game; he was an incredibly skilled defenseman, vicious on some of his checks. The Avalanche are my second favorite team, but I love this check on Claude Lemieux: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO1uhorF5LA

    2. Yeah, it'll suck not getting to see Stevie Y or Lidstrom playing in the game, but it's still an impressive roster.

    3. Assuming Brind'Amour, Ron Francis, and Glen Wesley are already set because their numbers are retired and they have current jobs with the team, the next three players I'd most like to see are Bret Hedican, Bates Battaglia, and Jeff O'Neill. Hedican was a great defenseman in route to the Cup victory in 2006 and one of my favorites. Battaglia was 1/3 of the 2002 BBC line with Brindy and Erik Cole and was a fan favorite. Jeff O'Neill was one of the great goal scorers our team had and he and Francis had great chemistry together.

    1. Igor Larionov, he relied more on his intelligence than his physical attributes, and you could plug him in on any line outside of the Russian 5. I wonder if they could get Doug Brown in there, he often subbed in on the Russian unit.

    2. Aside from the obvious, Steve Yzerman and Nicklas Lidstrom. They don't have, so far as I know, Gerard Gallant, Rick Zombo, Yves Racine, or Tim Cheveldae.

    3. All of them.

I'm no longer a Yankee fan, but seeing a hockey recreation being played on the new Yankee Stadium would be beautiful cool. Above all in view that the historical Yankee Stadium used to host other sports as well as baseball. It would type of exciting for the brand new Yankee Stadium to comply with the equal sort of pattern as the old Yankee stadium.
