When they say they are shutting down Strasburg they mean for the rest of the season, even if they make it all the way to World Series.

The thing about the Nationals is that in all reality they should shut him down. Coming off of Tommy John surgery you can't go 200 innings the next year its just not healthy for your arm. If you keep him at the limit for this season he'll be able to give you 190-200 IP next season no problem and not as big of a health risk considering that by then his elbow should be at 110% healthy-ness.

Also, the while the Nationals due owe it to there fans to keep him pitching if they make the offseason, rationally they are a really young team compared to other teams so while they are on pass to make the post season this year they should be able to make it the next few years no problem as long as everybody keeps healthy and their front office doesn't do anything stupid with the young talent that they have.

So while it is thought that they will keep him shut down even if they make the playoffs despite what most people would want; in all reality they really should if they want to make sure that they can give him a long successful career with them like he is very capable of.

Nobody knows really. I personally think that if he doesn't pitch in the normal rotation of the playoffs, they will put him in if an important do-or-die game comes up and they need him.

Great question, soon I think he will skip a start when they clinch the division or just when the believe the time is right.
