What is your opinion about my suggestion as under?
I rarely participate in voting as it is more time-consuming to get just one point. But recently I found a drawback of this system and realized how some participants amass thousands of points in a week. They go for voting oldest answers which are in large numbers and vote blindly without thinking. In the process, it is possible that even an incorrect answer may be voted.
MY SUGGESTION to ensure that the correct answer gets voted is to give 3 points for voting provided the voted answer gets selected as BA and no point if the voted answer is not selected as BA.

The voting option is an absolute sham, in my opinion. As you said, plenty of voters amass thousands of points in a week by just blindly voting for answers of random questions. Quite a number of times, the answers voted for aren't the best answers and are in fact wrong. Users on the Internet who view these answers with hopes of imbibing valuable knowledge could be mislead due to this. Another issue is the fact that users even have the option of voting for themselves. I've seen some trolls for whom a fairly significant portion of their answers are 'best answers' and it's fairly plausible to infer that they're voting for their own answers. I myself brought up the disadvantages of voting in one of my questions two years ago and mentioned that voting for one's own answer is tantamount to cheating and is very unfair on the users like yourself who invest so much of their time in giving good and detailed answers. Regarding your suggestion, I'm not too sure it would work. For a particular question, the answer which receives the highest number of votes will automatically be selected as the best answer. But the drawback is that not all voters vote for the answer that's truly the best; some of them treat Yahoo Answers as merely a game to amass points. Some of them may not even understand the question or be qualified to decide whether a certain answer is really the best or not. Now of course being awarded points as we answer questions makes it more fun(it certainly wouldn't be as fun for me without points awarded). But voters should be more responsible and only vote if they understand the question and the answers. In my opinion, users should be penalised for not choosing a best answer for their questions and voting might have to be disabled as users abuse this option. A thread related to this topic was forwarded to me(I'm not sure if it's still active). Perhaps you'd like to check it out and post some suggestions?

Your suggestion has a couple of flaws my friend...
1: Who is to determine whether an answer is correct or not? This may be possible in Math, but which user, user group, or staff member, should do the determining? And who should determine whether an answer is correct or not when it comes to a matter of taste (fashion), or belief (religion)?
2: YA has a problem with spam networks whose members post fluff questions in order to enable each other to level up, then they start spreading their junk all over YA. The same fake accounts also vote for each other - if they'd follow your suggestion, those spammers will often win instead of a good answer which may get only a single vote. What goes for those spam networks also holds true for trolls...
Sorry, but I don't believe your idea is a good one...

Madjukarji, the problem lies in the fact that the BA itself is the result of voting that as you have said was flawed. So, that does not have any good effect at all. I think it will never be prevented that someone with many accounts could ask and vote or select his/her own answer as BA in questions that he or she has also asked. Full circle of deceit.

Good idea but it wont workout practically . what you told is true no doubt about that but your points idea wont possible . by that idea nobody wont show interest in answering , all are turned to voting section only since it gives 3 points . so they lose interest in answering . this will spoil the purpose of the site .. . .
