Skyrim: Dawngaurd DLC?

Just wondering if i start a new skyrim game, and then download the dawngaurd dlc how would it work? would it automatically start the dawngaurd questline or would i have to activate it?

    You'd have to activate the DLC with the key given in the same account where you have Skyrim. It would then appear as a mission in the questline.

    at or around level 10

    you will hear a guard make mention of the dawn guard or some 1 from the dawn gaurd will approach

    you and it will start the quest
