Do you think my brother will be able to graduate from Basic Training?

My brother who is in basic training at Fort Jackson, SC just took the last PT test in order to graduate. He completed the running and sit ups portion, but failed the push ups portion because he has an injured toe. His toe had been giving him problems for a couple weeks before the test and his drill sergeant's were aware of this. My brother is physically able to do the push ups, but he can only complete so many before it starts to hurt.

His drill sergeant recommended that he should stay and complete Victory Forge, and my brother is going to stay and do it.

Is there still a chance that he could graduate, since they recommended he could stay? Will he get another chance to pass this PT test? It's unfortunate that something as minor as his toe is holding him back from passing.

Update:

Well, he was in sick bay for 2 days since it became infected around the end of red phase. He was then put back in full training. He is supposed to graduate August 16.

Everybody graduates from basic training. They will keep you there until you do. For something that minor they are going to make sure they push him through. They don't want him going to the doctor and have documentation on it. If it is documented let's just say it is not in the best interest of the military. After several months to a year then they just might let you go if things don't get better.

There's still plenty of time for him to take 1 or 2 more PT tests. He MUST have a passing PT test before he can graduate basic. If that's all that's holding him back and he can't do it by Aug 16, they will hold him over until he can, and then he will just graduate with the next class.

I haven't been to basic yet, but my friend broke her ankle a week before graduation and had to redo her first 3 weeks after she recovered. She's in green phase right now awaiting AIT.

depends. with the draw backs, they might just separate him. if they let him stay till he heals up, he will be re inserted. it might not be during the last phase or where he left off though, but he will be either pulling details or waiting in a hospital bed till then.

It is favorable to him that he pushed through the pain and gave it his all. Had he gone crying to medical, he wouldn't stand a chance.
