94 mercury sable has slow acceleration and the check engine light came on?
last week my check engine light came on and the i noticed a big drop in acceleration and gas mileage. I did a pretty good tune up including plugs, wires, air filter and oil change. but still same problem. not sure what the problem is. any ideas?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I think it is time for you to purchase a new car. The acceleration slowness might just ne due to the fact that the car is 18.5 years old. The check engine light shuld be able to be chacked at your local shop, but the repairs might be more than the cost of the actual car is worth.

Since there are only about a hundred different things that cause the light to come on, you could guess at it or plug in a diagnostic computer and read the code number. Most auto parts stores will read your codes for free --- the '94 sable is OBD2 compliant and will read the same as a 1996 or newer car and they can read it.
