If you are looking for a the quieter more affectionate bird then a female is probably your best bet. If you are looking for a bird that can easily imitate melodies and phrases, and is more playful and energetic, then a male is your best bet.

Also, yes a female can start laying eggs even without a mate, just like a chicken does. This is a result to breeding hormones that are activated when spring/summer starts coming around (breeding season). But as long as you don't put the bird in another cage with a male, the eggs will never hatch. There is no way of preventing this since it is just natural. Just simply remove the eggs from the cage.

    Good Luck!

Females love to sit by u and watch tv with u. The girls are quieter and mutch more affectionate. My birds sit by me for 6 hours a day. They fly in the cage to go poop. So I reccomend not clipping her wings after she learns her cage is the litter box. Lol. I sit with 52 cockatiels a day for 6 hours. I got 32 females and 20 males. Hope I helped.
