Should Rooney have played for TeamGB? What about Beckham?

It was decided that none of the senior England football players who played in the recent European Championships (such as Wayne Rooney) would play in the Olympics.

Also David Beckham was controversially omitted from the squad.

With TeamGB having now been knocked out by South Korea were these good decisions with hindsight?

I doubt United would have released Rooney to play, they're not obligated to release over-age players.

Beckham is well past it and I really don't see playing in a mediocre league like MLS as preparation to play in an international tournament.

What Pheemz said, both times. And I doubt Rooney would have wanted to to play, anyway.

I was pleasantly surprised with the GB men's team's performance; got the impression that they genuinely enjoyed playing in tournament, and they played well for a scratch side.
