What will CPUs be like in 10, 20, 30 years time?
Will we ever see 10GHz+ Desktop CPUs in the home?
Have the CPU manufacturers permanently given up on producing major increases clock speed or only put it on the backburner for now?
Will we still have similar clock speeds to now in 30 years, but have hundreds of cores?
I have read people saying that having more than 16 cores is pointless.
If clock speeds cannot increase and increasing the number of cores is pointless how will CPUs develop?
I know people say today's computers are powerful enough, but i'm not so convinced. Transcoding videos can still take hours even on modern hardware and with more computationally expensive codecs such as HEVC on the horizon transcoding will require more processing power than ever.
Besides, like the way that car manufacturers produce cars that have top speeds well in excess of the speed limit, we know that if it is possible and economically viable to manufacture something more powerful it will become available even if that power is superflous.
3 AnswersDesktops8 years agoWhat is the worst music video of all time?
There are 2 music videos that stand out to me as being particularly cringeworthy:
Paul McCartney - "Wonderful christmastime" - I am a Beatles fan but Macca's posing in this vid is an embarrassment
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9BZDpni56Y
Mick Jagger - "Let's Work" - the less said about this the better

Wonder if anyone knows of any Music videos even worse than these two or that similarly fall into the "so bad it's funny" category?

1 AnswerSoftware9 years agoWhat will Linux be like in 20 years time?
Linux has been around for just over 20 years and has come an awful long way in that time.
How do you envision Linux progressing in the next 20 years?
What will have changed - for better or for worse?

2 AnswersOther - Destinations9 years agoShould Olga Korbut have got more than 9.8 for her famous bars routine?
In the 1972 Olympics Olga Korbut performed an uneven bars routine that is famous to this day.
The judges gave her a score of 9.8. The crowd booed, as they believed she deserved a higher score.
Did she deserve a higher score or were the judges right to give her 9.8?
Link to video of her performance:
2 AnswersOlympics9 years agoHow come the US women are good at soccer and the US men are not?
Obviously soccer is far from being the most popular sport in the US.
This would seem to explain why the US men have never managed to be successful at soccer.
However, the US women have just become Olympic Champions at football. They have also won the Womens World Cup twice.
Why is the US one of the top nations at womens soccer but not at mens soccer?
5 AnswersOlympics9 years agoWhy do Olympic athletes think they look cool running with sunglasses on?
I have noticed in this Olympics a number of athletes running with sunglasses on.
Wallace Spearmon ran the 200m with sunglasses on. This can't have been because of the sun getting in his eyes, because the race was at 9 o'clock at night - it must have been a fashion statement. Is it just me or does it look daft? Also, shouldn't he be concentrating on running well rather than looking cool on TV?
2 AnswersOlympics9 years agoHow many Olympic athletes have day jobs?
Obviously the superstars like Phelps and Bolt make vast sums of money from their sport. However, what about those athletes who compete in less popular sports in which there is little money or those athletes who make up the numbers and go out in the first round?
How many Olympic athletes are there who have to get a regular job in order to pay the bills and cannot afford to concentrate full time on their sport?

3 AnswersOlympics9 years agoWill Bolt win the Olympic 200m final on Thursday?
Having just won the Olympic 100m final in London, Bolt is now the red hot favourite to win the 200m.
However, Michael Johnson was saying on BBC that it is not a given that Bolt will win the 200m because, by Bolt's own admission, he is not fully fit and fitness is a bigger factor in the 200m than it is in the 100m.
What do you think?
Will Bolt win the 200m or not?
Are you confident he will win or a bit unsure?
2 AnswersOlympics9 years agoWho is the more impressive Phelps or Bolt?
People have been going on about Phelps being the greatest Olympian ever.
Personally, however, having watched Bolt destroy the greatest 100m field in history and defend his Olympic title I have got to say that I have never seen anything like it.
The guy is a total freak.
What do you think?
Who impressed you most Phelps or Bolt?
16 AnswersOlympics9 years agoAfter looking impressive in the semis will Bolt now win the 100m?
If not then who will?
Blake?
Gatlin?
Gay?
Someone else?
3 AnswersOlympics9 years agoShould Rooney have played for TeamGB? What about Beckham?
It was decided that none of the senior England football players who played in the recent European Championships (such as Wayne Rooney) would play in the Olympics.
Also David Beckham was controversially omitted from the squad.
With TeamGB having now been knocked out by South Korea were these good decisions with hindsight?
