How come the US women are good at soccer and the US men are not?

The best male athletes in the US play football, basketball and baseball, so men's soccer gets the table scrapes of what's left over. With the women, there isn't women's baseball or football to take away from the talent pool. And the WNBA is, well lame. I love soccer, but the US MNT will never be globally competitive.

It is because that in the US other sports are MUCH more lucrative for men. American men that play professionally in the sports of american football, baseball, basketball, and even hockey can make a fortune. Thus, most of the best american male athletes tend to gravitate towards those sports instead of soccer.

American women, on the other hand, don’t have all the other options to make the type of money that men do in those team sports I listed. In fact, soccer is one of the few team sports where women can get *somewhat* famous in the US and thus the sport attracts some of the best female athletes in the US.

Interestingly enough, a lot of american boys grow up playing soccer. it's just that when they get to the middle school level most of them start playing those other team sports that have the potential to set them up for life. It's a cultural thing. As boys, our heroes play football, baseball, basketball, and hockey so that's who the best athletes among us aspire to be.

I think you can also observe that something similar occurs in Australia. Australian males can potentially gain a lot more fame and money in their own country playing Rugby or Australian Football so those sports tend to attract the best Australian male athletes instead of soccer. Same thing in Canada with hockey...

I also wonder why the US Women are so GREAT at Gymnastics, but the Men always SUCK.

Maybe it's just different coaches, you know. Women might take these sports more seriously, while Men are less interested, and favor more "masculine" sports like Football, as someone else mentioned.

Cause guys just don't have what it takes to win the gold or the world cup.

American men aspire for (American) football. its much more masculine.
