Who is the more impressive Phelps or Bolt?

Phelps. 22 medals. The second most in olympic history has 18. He has 18 golds. Impressive? I think yes. Bolt is a stud. In fact, I didn't think he'd get that gold. I have said all along that he would grab the 200m title. He looks like a lock for that now.

But I just watched Bolt race and win of course and it looked as if he wasn't even trying

The thing about swimming is that there are so many events, really dumb ones like 50, 100, 150 etc so even if Phelps doesn't win an event he has so many chances to win something, Phelps lost 2 events but still managed to win like 3 golds this Olympics

I'm sure if they made 110m, 120m, 130m etc Bolt would get like 10 golds

phelps has been seen as the greatest olympian because he has won the most medals ever. also, phelps has done just what bolt has done and destroyed the rest of the field, has broken more world records and is absoloutely amazing.! you don't just win 21 olympic medals for nothing right?

Bolt. He has beaten record, upon record, upon record. I dont think anyone will ever beat his 9.58. Phelps is impressive too, i was kinda bummed out when i found out he's retiring.

@Chaos-Your an idoit. Bolt won the 100m, 200m in BEIJING in '08. He helped get gold for his relay in 4x100. And guess what? He'd beaten ALL the records. Don't forget about Daegu in 2011....he beaten all his records again.

I'm more impressed by Bolt.

In Swimming, the BEST swimmers swim the 100 meter FREESTYLE, Phelps never did.

In Sprinting, the BEST run the 100 meter, Bolt dominates the best, of the best in his discipline.

Phelps is spectacular because of his success of course, but a lot of that, is in his avoiding the best swimmers in the pool.

i am more impressed with Bolt.

there is something about being the fastest man in the world that is just more fascinating to me.

and i'm surprised that he won because i thought maybe he was having physical problems. i thought he would have a bad start or an injury and not win.

Personally i think they are both absolutely incredible at what they do - equally as impressive at their sports, totally dominant. However I prefer Michael Phelps simply because of two reasons:

1. Bolt is slightly too arrogant for many people's liking. I mean i don't mind a bit of posing, but come on - there's a fine line between confidence and arrogance.

2. Phelps seems like a nicer person - winner or loser. I mean look at the way he handled winning only silver in the 200m butterfly final, after losing to that amazing (and totally gorgeous) Chad le Clos of South Africa, a 20 year old who idolised him. He didn't look sad. On the contrary he looked thrilled that this young man achieved his dream, even showing him what to do and where to go after winning.

Still, two truly inspirational athletes.

Who impressed me more at THESE Games? Bolt.

When do the best swimmers swim the 100 freestyle? Idiot. It's the 200 IM and 400 IM the best swimmer swims in.

Michael Phelps, easily. He won 2 individual races - Bolt won one.
