Why do Olympic athletes think they look cool running with sunglasses on?

I have noticed in this Olympics a number of athletes running with sunglasses on.

Wallace Spearmon ran the 200m with sunglasses on. This can't have been because of the sun getting in his eyes, because the race was at 9 o'clock at night - it must have been a fashion statement. Is it just me or does it look daft? Also, shouldn't he be concentrating on running well rather than looking cool on TV?

1- it keeps the sun out of their eyes

2- its good luck. lots of athletes are superstitious. i always wore pink socks and a headband.... it worked

3- hes always worn them. its his trademark like anthony davis trademarking his unibrow.\

i think he can race what he wants because he holds the 6th fastest 200 all time and got 3rd in beijing but got disqualified.

    Source(s): me (stupid question)!

The glasses help with the glare of the lights, and they do have a streamlining effect. But a lot of the time the glasses simply help them psychologically, which helps them to concentrate on the running.
