Why does bible contain obscene verses and absurdity if christians consider it to be the word of God?
I was surprised to see so many obsecene verses while reading the bible? and Still christians consider it to be the word of God? I really doubt that the current bible is distorted..
for eg: like, GENESIS
47:29 Joseph ordered to place his hand under father's thigh
15:29-30 Women must make sin offering for menstrual periods
35:2 Reuben sleeps with father's concubine

That's Lev. 15:29-30, not Genesis.
Why would you expect God to tell us anything but the truth about how these people behaved.
As for Reuben sleeping with his father concubine, no one approved of it. Reuben got cursed for it, by his own father.
The putting a hand under someones thigh was a serious vow/promise. Beats cutting your arm (as in so many cultures now) and making a blood promise (see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penalty_(Mormonism)
Not sure how any of that is "obscene." We're not talking about Reuben taking his fathers concubine against her will.
The only serious problem seem to be your question regarding women having to make a "sin offering" for having menstrual periods. So, I looked it up. That's where it's found in Leviticus, not Genesis.
Leviticus 15:29-30
New International Version (NIV)
29 "On the eighth day she must take two doves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 30 The priest is to sacrifice one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the Lord for the uncleanness of her discharge."
Is the full passage you gave us. However, as you can see, "On the eighth day of what?"
Let's read the whole thing and it should clear up what this is really about because it is the only verse in the whole bible that puts menstruating and sin offering together.
To do that, we have to look at verses 25-30, not just 29 and 30.
25 “‘When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other than her monthly period or has a discharge that continues beyond her period, she will be unclean as long as she has the discharge, just as in the days of her period. 26 Any bed she lies on while her discharge continues will be unclean, as is her bed during her monthly period, and anything she sits on will be unclean, as during her period. 27 Anyone who touches them will be unclean; they must wash their clothes and bathe with water, and they will be unclean till evening.
28 “‘When she is cleansed from her discharge, she must count off seven days, and after that she will be ceremonially clean. 29 On the eighth day she must take two doves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance to the tent of meeting. 30 The priest is to sacrifice one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the Lord for the uncleanness of her discharge."
offerings to make clean what was unclean (and that includes men in whole assortments of situations too) are NOT the same thing as "sin offerings."
Remember in those days they did not have antibiotics, or sonograms, medical "science" was barely in its infancy. This is assuming a woman has this problem because of sin and gives her a way to be forgiven for that and returned to the community as "clean".
In Judaism, being set apart is part and parcel of being "holy." Lots of "making" oneself clean again after all sorts of things (like touching a dead body, etc) has nothing to do with sin.
I don't see what is absurd with much of this. Most cultures back then separated their women when menstruating from males in varying amounts of separation. No one had washing machines in those days. YOu seem to be making a lot out of a couple verses like no one sleeps with Dads old flame in our times? People sinned in the Bible, and God made mention of it sometimes to teach us lessons.

I know that God is better than us and He ain't none of us! If He used to be, He would be restricted! God is an excellent God! You should put the deal with of the scripture you're coming from. All Christians don't know their approach around the Bible. Those which might be pro must comprehend, but there are new Christians on this cite. I know you located it in Isaiah! The identical subject is in 1 Corinthians 1:18-31. Read and feel!

You are judging folkways and mores of an ancient oriental civilization using the folkways and mores of a modern occidental civilization as your frame of reference. This is a contextual fallacy known as the Ilicit metabasis.
Thank you for maintaining the atheist tradition of speaking only in logical fallacies.

you haven't read ezekiel?
Ezekiel 23: - 19 Yet she became more and more promiscuous as she recalled the days of her youth, when she was a prostitute in Egypt. 20 There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. 21 So you longed for the lewdness of your youth, when in Egypt your bosom was caressed and your young breasts fondled.

The Bible is not rated G. It speaks the truth, and the truth is often messy.

The Bible is a collection of bronze age fairy tales full of nonsense and bullshit. It's beyond me how anybody can take it seriously.

It's amazing how people who no nothing about the bible, search out these scriptures, take them out of context to prove some point, which they do not prove, but make a fool of themselves.
Absurdity...Let's see...Some magic sludge evolving into beautiful men and women able to procreate. hmm

And if it didn't have obscene verses and absurdities in it you'd complain that it isn't talking to you.
