chinese water dragon help?
posted earlier about my dragon being brown. Some of you said it may have to do with the temperature and humidity. Can anyone recommend a way to achieve the right temps in my vivarium?

Since I don't know how your setup is like, here is a quick rundown of what I used when I had a CWD.
1. Zoo Med Powersun 100W
2. Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0
3. 45W-50W halogen flood lamp
4. Eco Earth
The Powersun provides both UVB and heat. It was located 12" above the water dish at an angle. The Reptisun only produces UVB and it was located at the top of the enclosure. Again, 12" away from the highest basking spot. I then used either a 45W-50W halogen flood lamp on a clamp lamp and located it on the left side of the cage angled towards the highest basking spot. Halogen flood lamps can be bought at Home Depot or Lowe's, usually cheaper than "reptile" lights, and work just as good.
I also used 6" of Eco Earth for substrate because it holds moisture well, which helped keep humidity up. Keep in mind that my enclosure was 4'L x 3'W x 6'H. In order to get the proper basking temps, you have to either raise or lower the basking spot. An infrared temp gun is an invaluable tool which accurately tells you the surface temp of the basking spot.
Note: I used a large tupperware container as a feeding dish. Therefore there was no risk of impaction and a lower risk of getting substrate in his eyes when feeding.

I have two bearded dragons and that i totally recommend a bearded dragon over a chinese language water dragon on account that as a rule you should not preserve a water dragon they usually desire a higher enclosure, in addition they take extra time and care. When beardies are fun to look at and play with. In addition they have broad sorts of a personality and are believed to be the only lizard with the quality personality. Should you get a beardie the 55 gallon tank will probably be excellent for approximately three or 4 months then the lizard will start to get bigger and also you ought to both buy a better enclosure or make one. Myself individually I made a cage for my beardies and it was once rather a lot more cost effective considering the fact that i have each of them together and a cage that would match both of them would of costed about 600$ and i handiest spent about 200$ when making my own. Additionally you can need a basking spot gentle also for a bearded dragon no longer only a UVB. Additionally, when beardies are infants they require close to 50 crickets a day with calcium sub.(They devour so much due to the fact that of their rapid growth.), however when they grow old they barely eat. Simply make certain you feed it more then simply crickets, give it ice berg lettuce and other veggies. Its fine to buy a ebook at a pet retailer about each and make a decision which reptile could be less complicated for you considering that I did that and bought a booklet about beardies and water dragons on account that I at the start wanted a water dragon but got here to discover beardies are significantly better pets and less difficult/ more cost effective to handle. (to start with they are high priced for like the primary 6 months but then they end up lots less expensive when they consume less!)
