I am looking into making my own bodywash,a few questions I need answered would be very helpful. thanks?

I have several recipes to make my own bodywash which would save soooo much money with having a family of 6,going on 7. the only thing is apparently no store that I've been to sells glycerin and honestly when I ask the pharmacist if they sell it,they look at me like I'm attempting to make some kind of explosive or something... I can't get it online because I do not have a card or bank account(paycheck to paycheck living at the current moment). Is there anything I can use in place of the glycerin for the body wash? I've heard several people say the glycerin acts as a type of "smoothing agent" for lack of a better term.It keeps the bodywash from clumping up and keeps it smooth and able to flow better instead of dealing with the clumps that develope in it without glycerin. I don't know of any other agent or ingredient that would do the same thing as I'm brand new to the homemade living. But after making my own baby wipes, laundry soap, candles, and fabric softener....I've become hooked on the huge savings and its an awesome stress reliever to just make my own smelly good stuff. If anyone has other recipes,or suggestions(experience or not) on using something in place of the glycerin I would absolutely appreciate it all. thanks so much =)

Dear Onlyme21,You can buy Glycerin very reasonably @ www.BulkApothecary.com/Glycerin it's $0.75per/LB. I am sure they will let you send a money order or tell you if any stores sell what you are looking for in your area. They also had a phone number, (888-968-7220) plus recipes to make homemade things thanks I think I will give this a try I hate a lot of soaps they sell at stores in fact I will not go down the soap isle unless I have to because I have COPD, I hope this helped Happy Homemaking! and Wow you must be a super MOM did you really say SEVEN unheard of these days, Thanks you've made up for the 2 I don't have, your a Lucky Lady! If you can't find it at a drugstore, check a whole foods store and ask if they sell vegetable glycerin. A lot of those places do. You can also check specialty cooking stores as well. If you find a way to buy online, there are a ton of sites to get the glycerine from.

Edit: If you're using the recipes you find on the internet where you use grated soap and add glycerine and water, you can omit the glycerine all together if you just use grated castille soap instead of bar soap. Make sure you add some good smelling stuff to it and maybe some vitamin E oil or something extra for your skin!
