    veggie garden problems. help please!!!?

I'm growing broccoli, cabbage, tomatoes (sweet cherry and big boy), and. Cauliflower. All plants thrived and grew massive just weeks after transplanting. Insect problems were nonexistent up until a week ago... I started noticing a few tiny holes so I got out my trusty soap water mixture(1 part dawn 4 parts water) and spritzed each plant just enough to dampen. Here we are 4 days later and it looks like my broccoli plants have suffered a major bug problem. There are holes everywhere and now browning has started occurring. Is there any way to save my poor broccoli? Seems such a shame after all the tlc and time I've put into my garden to just watch it all go downhill. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Rash on my son. Please help?

My son has developed yet another rash. He is prone to diaper rashes and has had a few heat rashes or viral rashes with colds. This one feels different. It kinda feels sand papery to an extent. His doctor is out of the office, and due to bad information the one time he saw the NP I refuse to take him back there when it is only her who is there. I wasn't sure if this warranted a trip to the hospital as it doesn't seem to bother him much. He scratches at it every once in a while but not nearly enough for me to think it is something like measles or anything related to that. I thought it was a heat rash but the last time he had it,it didn't feel like this.Last time there were a few bumpy areas (like pimples) and other areas were smooth but you could see the red spots. This one feels like extremely dry skin mixed with sandpaper in spots. It looks like the Prickly Heat Rash, but it just feels different. It's all over his face and his arms but really nowhere else.He has a few stray bumps here and there on his legs but his entire face/head and arms are covered with it. All in all,Monday I'm taking him to see his Doctor but until then is there anything I could possibly put on it to make it decrease?? As I said he does not seem uncomfortable at all, except for the rare occasion he ends up scratching at it,nothing oozes from them and there is no crusting or anything like that. I think it is heat rash considering it's been nearly 100 for the past week and our AC unit broke 2 days ago.I've been taking him to the store with me and playing outside in the water or put him in a cool bath to keep him cooled off,and the fans keep it relatively decent inside the house until the guy gets here to fix the unit. Thanks for any advice.

  • Too much detail in a novel? Any help is apprecaited.?

I've been working on a novel for quite some time now. I read all the time from books that describe every detail to books that leave most of that to the reader's imagination. I'm close to finishing the novel, and I was reading back through it for typos.I'm not exactly sure what genre it would fall under as it has horror,suspense/thriller,and mystery aspects throughout it. In my story most situations are described in detail, and certain places as well. I described them with so much detail because it applies to the plot. For example... I described an apartment in great detail and later on the character realizes she had been fantasizing the apartment in place of her true surroundings which turned out to be a room in an mental institution. Everything that was described in detail came into play later throughout the book. There are also instances where, for example, she would dream about a distinct type of "creature" (or monster if you will) and I described in many details exactly how the creature looked and moved. Should I ease up on the details or is it alright. When I read it through I could visualize exactly what the characters, creatures, and places looked like but then again it's my own creation so I knew what it all looked like before it was written down. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks so much

  • What type of degree would you suggest I go for?

I have been up and down trying to figure out what type of courses/degrees I should go for when I apply for college. I wanted to join the Military but seeing as that is most likely not going to happen...I've decided that I need to take courses in something else that would benefit me job-wise if I do not qualify for the Military. Apologies in advance because I'm so jumbled about this that this might not make very much sense.Sorry again. I love reading/literature. I am a huge fan of "old" literature too.I am a history buff. I love cryptic things.I love puzzles, meaning things that might not make sense just looking them...I love the challenge of figuring things out. I'm intrigued with serial killers and motives (like figuring out or trying to understand the reasoning of how someone who seemed perfectly normal could do such atrocious things). I enjoy helping people.I am often sought out to be a shoulder to lean on and listen well to problems and give good advice (so I'm told...) I love babies and children,I have 5 of my own,and I am very good with children and infants. I can deal with a large amount of stress, and can push aside issues to get the goal accomplished without biased opinions and assumptions.

I am not looking for a teaching job. That is probably the only career path I do not want to take.I would also not like to be in politics either. Rather than those two and my jumbled mess of interests...what courses or degrees should I aim for or what possible career paths would you suggest going for? If any further input is needed just let me know and I will put the info in the added details. ANY suggestions are appreciated and thanks for taking the time to read this. Also for anyone who asks why I am not pursuing the Military career anymore as much as I was...I still fully intend on trying to join the Military but will most likely be disqualified for 2 different reasons(gestational diabetes in a previous pregnancy and having 5 children) that I do not think I will be able to get a waiver for. That is why I want to have something else under my belt so I'm not left in the dust at square one when I am disqualified from joining.Although it is my primary career path that I want to take,I just do not see it working out the way I hope it does. Thanks again for taking the time to read this massive question and for any suggestions you may have.

  • Will I even get through MEPS for a past "ailment"?

I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant in 2010. Will this disqualify me at MEPS. It went away after birth, and I had another child in 2012 and did NOT get Gestational Diabetes during that pregnancy. I have been tested for diabetes since my son was born in 2012 and I do not have Diabetes. I was told the only reason I was declared to have Gestational Diabetes in 2010 because I was 1 point over the scale(they would've liked me to stay within the scale range) and the only treatment I had to do for Gestational Diabetes was proper diet and exercise.I did not have to take insulin injections or pills or anything rather than just maintain an appropriate diet and exercise. The rest of my medical history is squeaky clean, and my legal history is squeaky clean. Please tell me this won't disqualify me because I caved and drank a 4 oz. glass of orange juice 6 hrs before my glucose test while pregnant 3 years ago.... Thanks for any information.

  • I'm wanting to join the U.S. Military. Which ASVAB study guide should I get?

I am finally proceeding with the next chapter of my life(which I am extremely excited about). I am wanting to join the U.S. Military and I am having trouble figuring out which ASVAB book to buy. I have found several that claim to be the best, but I would like one that covers each section of the test thoroughly. Most that I have thumbed through focus on the 4 major subjects that the Military requires you to pass but I would like to brush up on each and every subject instead of just the main 4 subjects required. Which ASVAB study guide would be the best one to get for all subjects included in the test? Thanks so much for any answers.

  • Recipe for Oatmeal cookies?

Hi,I've searched for a recipe for peanut butter oatmeal bars (squares) that exclude brown sugar and can not find one anywhere on here. Does anyone have a recipe for peanut butter oatmeal bars (squares) that does not require brown sugar or has a substitute that does not include molasses? Unfortunately I am out of molasses and brown sugar and do not know of a substitute that can be used for brown sugar that doesn't involve molasses. I also don't have syrup :( Due to the huge amount of snow I'm not able to get to the store today,so I was just curious if anyone has a good recipe for these that either doesn't call for brown sugar or a substitution that doesn't need syrup or molasses. I know its a long shot but thanks for any info :)

My washing machine broke, the motor went out. I've hand washed clothes before but I do not have a washboard anymore. Is there anything I can use in place of the washboard? I am unable to get another washboard at the moment so any helpful advice on substitutes I can use in place of a washboard, or the most effective wash to get the clothes clean without using a washboard would be greatly appreciated. I'm just curious if there is now a certain time frame when I can file my taxes.I ask because I've been hearing from several people (including my job) that I won't be able to file my taxes until sometime in March, but I've already received my W2 from my workplace. I file through H & R block and haven't been able to find anything about not being able to file until March,(I've tried calling as well but its all automated,no live person)so any advice on what you've heard or been told as well is much appreciated.

  • I had my tubes tied a month ago and its starting to hurt again...?

I had my tubes tied on October 28th after having my baby boy.It hurt for 2 weeks due to a bad cold that came with a bad cough and everytime I coughed it made the incision hurt(and my insides). Well after 2 weeks it didn't hurt that much but then a week later I was cleaning and doing laundry and when I was takin the laundry down to my washer I felt something "pop" for lack of a better description. I didn't think anything of it at the time until it happened again yesterday and now my insides(behind my incision) hurt. Best way to describe it is it feels like when you tighten your abs. A lot pressure and now the incision site hurts too. The incision site is a bit red also. The incision has been healed for almost 2 1/2 weeks now so its not open/tore open. I'm not sure if maybe I strained myself and caused this or its just normal pains of everything going back to normal. It doesn't feel like period cramps and it doesn't feel like my uterus contracting(or going back to normal after having a baby)...just wanting to get a little insight from ladies that have had their tubes tied and might have experienced anything like this. I have my 6 week check up in a week so I'm just looking for some thoughts or ideas on why it hurts again until I can get to the doctor. Thanks so much.

  • My 1 month old coughed up blood, advice please?

My 1 month old son was diagnosed with bronchiolitis(sp?) on Saturday. Myself, and my 4 daughters kept passing around a cold that we just could not get rid of no matter what we did and unforunately my little man caught it. He has coughing fits and is congested. Well usually he never coughed up anything except for a little slobber but that was it.The cough hasn't made him throw up or anything and at the ER his blood cell count was good enough to not warrant a spinal tap being done on him. His regular pediatrician saw him on Monday and found that it was bronchiolitis as the hospital diagnosed, but said with colds like this it usually gets worse around the 4th and 5th day,and to watch out for wheezing and fever. If he has either of these symptoms he will have to be admitted to the hospital. He hasn't had a fever,or wheezing but this morning after I fed him he ended up having a coughing fit again and ended up spitting up some formula. After he spit up he still coughed a bit and ended up spitting up again only this time it was a light red color. It wasn't much maybe about a 1/4 of a teaspoon worth. My best guess is it was blood(maybe from an irritated stomach or sore/raw throat...but I still have an hr before his doctor is in the office so I'm looking for advice or suggestions on why he would spit up red/(possibly blood),and if I should wait for his regular doc to get in or take him to the ER. Mind you this...no fever,no vomiting or diarrhea,no wheezing, and only had the one coughing fit this morning. He hasn't coughed since this morning. Also just to be clear he only drinks formula so the red could not have come from something he had eaten or drank due to only drinking formula. Thanks for any advice or suggestions on what is going on or what it could possibly be.

  • Severe Cold and 39 Weeks pregnant,Home remedies anyone?

Oh my goodness I have a cold that is seriously kickin my butt. I'm also 39 wks pregnant so I'm not so sure what is safe to take and what is not rather than Sudafed and Tyenol. I'd rather not take medicine considering I've toughed through some pretty bad colds with my other pregnancies but this one seems to take the cake. My throat is super scratchy and sore. My voice is cracking,if I have any voice left. One side of my nose is runny the other side is stuffed up super bad. Constant headache and body pains. My eyes are non-stop watering and hurt, and somehow I've developed a Sty on one of my eyes that is just making my eye hurt worse than it did before. Also sneezing. Its not a sinus/allergy problem its a cold. I've tried using vicks vapor rub and the vaporizer which do a little bit of good once I can finally sit down and "enjoy" it. I've also tried lemon and honey tea for my throat which works for just a bit but then goes back to hurting about an hr later. Mind you this I have 4 daughters also so I am unable to sleep whenever I want(which would probably do me some good in getting rid of this cold but I just can't sleep all the time). Not to mention all my daughters are sick(which is how I got sick in the first place) and my husband is just now getting over his severe cold as well. He helps when he gets home from work but he does work 14 hr days so I don't really expect him to take care of everything once he gets home so I can sleep. No happy in between I guess....anyway,any home remedies or suggestions besides cold medicine would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much

  • Rodent problem please help with some info?

I noticed a mouse the other day running back and forth through my kitchen.Mainly under the fridge and behind the stove is where it kept going. So I unplugged both appliances and cleaned well under and inside of both(not inside of the appliances guts as I can not get a fridge off the floor by myself)... I have recenty put all foods that were in accessible boxes and packages into steel and glass containers with airtight lids. Cleaned house from top to bottom paying special attention to the corners and where the baseboards meet the flooring. My dog's food is put up when she is not eating it,and all water sources(that I know of...I'm sure there is something somewhere I missed) have been fixed and are no longer accessible unless its climbing into the pipes somehow. Since I've done all this,I noticed the mouse has begun to climb on cords to get to higher places(which there still isn't food there). I have NO idea how to remedy this problem,as all my outlets are closer to the floor. There are no outlets that are higher than maybe an inch or two off the ground. Everything that isn't used or being used is unplugged at all times but there are some things that are plugged in throughout the day and this is what it is climbing on to get to the table or entertainment center. It even puled a lamp over trying to climb the cord. All my drapes and curtains are cut to size now and do not hang lower than the window sills which are a good 2 maybe 3 feet off the ground so the curtains are not a problem...but I still can not keep this damn thing off the electrical cords to the TV in my living room.It disgusts me that it has gotten to the point of it getting on my entertainment center and even though I haven't seen it yet I'm sure it has been on a few tables due to this issue(which I do sanitize and use bleach cleaner every morning and night just to be on the relatively safe side). I also know that if there is one there is most likely more which doesn't make me anymore comfortable...The only reason I know the one I've been seeing is the same one,is because you can tell its been caught in a trap before because half its tail is missing. By the way its a field mouse if anyone was wondering. Anyway is there ANYTHING I can do rather than keeping stuff unplugged to keep this thing off of my wires/cords?? Or maybe something I can put on the cords? I've used traps(apparently he learned his lesson from the first one he got caught in and avoids them),peppermint oil which seems to keep him away for a little bit but then comes right back through where I put it with no problems, bay leafs it just eats, pepper(chili, cayenne etc) doesn't bother it,in fact I think he eats that too...moth balls,blah...just about every home remedy I've found is a bust. So any other helpful suggestions would be fantastic and much appreciated. Thanks

  • Urine smell in carpet... any Suggestions?

My 2 yr old in is the middle of potty training, and for some reason at night ends up wetting through her diaper.(I use pull ups on her at night). She has had very few accidents during the day and its mainly at night in her room when she ends up having one. I've tried switching to the overnight diapers for this time but they are too big for her and end up causing more of a leaking problem then actually helping keep it in check. She doesn't get anything to drink 2 hrs before bed to help cut down on the occassional accidents.I've scotch gaurded the carpet in her room as well. Everytime she's had an accident I've cleaned it up as quickly as I've found it(sometimes in the middle of the night when I notice it when I check on her).Yesterday she had one accident and its left a smell in the carpet that is as stubborn as can be and I can NOT get it to go away. I don't have a carpet cleaner,I clean all my carpets by hand. I've used baking soda on it,vinegar solution, chemical cleaners(which did less than the "old school" remedies, and just plain soap and water and the smell might go away for a short time but then comes right back after the area dries. I've heard to try Borax but that is one thing I'm not sure about how to use on carpets.I do use it for other cleaning things but I've never used it for carpets. Is it the same as using baking soda? Can I use some sort of solution of super washing soda or borax that might be more effective on the carpet or any other suggestions as to get rid of that smell would be GREATLY appreciated.

****Please note, the accident I'm talking about happened yesterday(found it yesterday morning) and this is the only one I can not get rid of. All the others were no problem to rid the carpet of.I dunno why this one time is so bad. And yeah it sounds gross but I've gotten on hands and knees and the carpet only smells in that one place now, nowhere else. And she is healthy too, just had a doc. appt today so there is nothing going on to make the smell so strong that is due to her health(just wanted to add that in there). Thanks so much for any help =)

  • When making homemade soap bars can you add.....?

I've recently tried my hand in making my own soap bars from melt and pour bases. I've used fragrance oil in them, and a few kitchen spices and they turned out fantastic(especially my Apple Blossom fragrance and ground cinnamon powder bars). But I have recently been wondering if I could add shredded coconut into the bars themselves as maybe like an exfoliate or to naturally scent the bars(which I know the scent probably won't be that strong when its a finished product). What I'm wondering is is it a good idea to add store bought shredded coconut to homemade soap bars? Since its not fresh shredded coconut I wouldn't think that it would actually go bad inside the bars but I honestly have no idea if it would or not being store bought dried coconut. Any suggestions would be awesome. Also is there any way to make my "own" coconut milk from the store bought shredded coconut? If so,any recipe suggestions to do so would be fantastic as well. Thanks so much for any answers =)

  • Getting Dog smell out of my carpet?? Any suggestions?

Hi.My dog ended up having "the runs" for lack of a better term at the moment and when I left for 15 minutes to take my daughters' to school, she ended up having this issue on my carpet in about 5 piles.(and before anyone gives smart a$$ answers,I can not leave her outside while I am gone because someone will surely try to take her,I was hoping she would be alright until I got home because she went out to potty right before we left). I've removed what I could, use soapy water to scrub and blot up as much as I possibly can and I can still smell that smell. Is there any household tricks rather than Vinegar that I could use on the spots to eliminate the smell? I'm looking for a temporary fix until this evening when I can get to the store and get pet stain/odor remover.Just looking for something to temp. fix the smell for a short period of time,or if you have any ideas for long term/permanent that are household remedies that would be fantastic as well. I have put baking soda on my carpets and its been sitting there for about a half hour now,but since I can still smell that smell I was going to leave it on another hour or so to try and "soak up" that smell. Any suggestions would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

  • Another Main Drain question??? Ideas?

Ok so I've had some issues due to my neighbors with my main drain overflowing/backing up in the past. Eventually a plumber was called out and corrected the problem but once again yesterday I went to flush the toilet and all was well. No back up in the toilet and it flushed as usual. About an hour later, maybe a bit less,I went to change my laundry in the basement and sure enough there was once again sewage backing up into my basement. It started to go down so I started the laundry and went back upstairs to let it drain. Another hour passed and one of my daughters ended up flushing the toilet before I could stop her,(She is almost 3 and rarely flushes the toilet due to the noise scaring her)and when I went back down the water was 3 xs the size in diameter than it was when it initially overflowed. I poured drain-o down it which has done the trick before and sure enough it did start working and then my older girls got home from school and hubby got home from work and the toilet usage sky rocketed and ofcourse everyone forgot that I said not to flush it just yet and half of my basement ended up flooded. It was almost gone by about 9 and everyone went to bed so no more flushing. When it was finally gone about 2 hrs later I flushed the toilet(which was clean) to see if it would back up in the basement again and sure enough it did and now my toilet seems to be clogged as well now. The water gets ready to overflow so I pull up the ball thing in the tank to stop it from soaking the bathroom floor but it still backs up in the basement when flushed. Is there anything I can do besides calling a plumber and using a snake?? Plunging doesn't work,in fact I think it makes matters worse. I do not have a snake and can not get one until this Friday which is pretty much 2 days away to sit with nastiness in my basement everytime the toilet flushes, and I would much rather not call a plumber unless there is no other alternative because I have to go throught he landlord who RARELY answers his phone, and almost never returns calls. Last time I called the emergency maintenance, they had a number to call on the autmoated message(yes automated message for emergency maintenance) and ended up not gettin a return call until 4 days later and then it took another 6 days for a plumber to even be called and show up. My problem with that is,if I had the money to dish out I would call a plumber on my own and pay them there and give the landlord my receipt but knowing him,he will say I should've went through him and now the bill is my problem. Also we live in a double which apparently shares a sewer line or drain line or something because my last overflow problem was due to their negligence but I'm guessing somehow this is our doing this time. I don't know how but if the toilet is now clogged then I'm guessing it is due to our side messing up and not the neighbors(although I may be wrong about that....I have no idea). So if there are any ways to correct this problem before it gets to the Plumber stage I would very much like to hear them and try them out. If Thanks any answers are appreciated.

**** Another thing is my washer does not affect the main drain backing up. I've used it several times and each time it runs(when drain is backing up or not) the water never rises or accumulates. But when the toilet is flushed you can see water come up through the main drain.****

  • How can I get rid of Thrush while being pregnant?

Ok so I'm pretty sure I have thrush. I have the white coating on my tongue,it is uncomfortable, and I found another white spot on the inside of my mouth and the corner of my mouth is cracking(as if it were dry or chapped),and tend to get cotton mouth if I am not always sipping on water. I'm wondering if I should just go to the hospital for it, or is there a pregnancy safe way to get rid of it at home? From what I've heard and read the antibiotics that are typically given can be harmful to baby so unless it is severe (which I don't believe its to that point yet) no meds will be prescribed. So what exactly would a hospital be able to do if I can not take the antibiotics? In other words I'm wondering if this spreads,if I should bother going to the hospital if they are just going to tell me there is nothing I can do,or if I should just try home remedies for it? I don't have an appt with my OB for another 2 days so until then I'm not sure what to do about it. Sometimes it can be uncomfortable to eat too, feels like something is stuck in the back of my throat...

And please keep rude(sexual) vulgar comments to yourself. I only have 1 partner, and only had 1 partner in my life who is my husband and has been this way since I was 16 and am now 26.I also haven't given oral sex to him either so now that that is out there any helpful suggestions on what to do about the thrush would be appreciated.

  • I am looking into making my own bodywash,a few questions I need answered would be very helpful. thanks?

I have several recipes to make my own bodywash which would save soooo much money with having a family of 6,going on 7. the only thing is apparently no store that I've been to sells glycerin and honestly when I ask the pharmacist if they sell it,they look at me like I'm attempting to make some kind of explosive or something... I can't get it online because I do not have a card or bank account(paycheck to paycheck living at the current moment). Is there anything I can use in place of the glycerin for the body wash? I've heard several people say the glycerin acts as a type of "smoothing agent" for lack of a better term.It keeps the bodywash from clumping up and keeps it smooth and able to flow better instead of dealing with the clumps that develope in it without glycerin. I don't know of any other agent or ingredient that would do the same thing as I'm brand new to the homemade living. But after making my own baby wipes, laundry soap, candles, and fabric softener....I've become hooked on the huge savings and its an awesome stress reliever to just make my own smelly good stuff. If anyone has other recipes,or suggestions(experience or not) on using something in place of the glycerin I would absolutely appreciate it all. thanks so much =)

  • I have white on my tongue and it hurts...what can this be?

About 2 days ago from the middle of my tongue to the back was/is hurting. It feels like its raw in other words. Today I saw that half of my tongue in various spots(some larger than other) that there was a white-ish type coating on my tongue too. I brushed it,and used the tongue scrubber thing on the tooth brush and got most of it off but there is some that just wouldn't come off no matter how much I scrubbed and brushed and used mouthwash. I'm also 7 months pregnant,so I'm not sure if this is some effect of hormone imbalance or something,as it never happened with any of my 4 other pregnancies. Can anyone help me figure out what this is? I don't have an appointment for another 3 days at my OB,so any help would be appreciated as it gets rather uncomfortable to eat or drink anything other than water and sometimes even that is hard to get down. It constantly feels like there is something in the back of my throat and when I eat or drink it only makes that feeling worse.

Also~ I only have one sex partner and that's my husband, its been that way since I was 16 and now I'm 26. I haven't went down on him either.Just putting that out there for those who feel like commenting vulgar, rude, nasty comments...you will be reported if you do so as well. thanks for any help.
