How would you go about sharpening a M7 bayonet?
I heard you could sharpen it with the sheath but i'm not sure if that would really work or not.
I guess that sharpening it with the sheath does sound a little strange. I don't really remember where I heard it. I guess that someone told me I could do it that way and I forgit who it was. I didn't try sharpening it yet. I probably won't use it for much except for a fancy box opener or something. I might not use it at all.

The M7 can not be sharpened by the sheath. Only the new OKC3S which is the current standard Marine Bayonet has a sharpening stone built into the backside of the sheath. The M7 is a cheap bayonet with a basic metal sheath.
Older bayonets like the M7 are made of cheaper steel and not generally made to be very sharp and won't really hold an edge that well.

If you want to keep it's historical value - DON'T sharpen it. Get a good civilian Buck knife and sharpen that instead - they're nice steel. But a bayonet isn't really for fine work.
