The Gelandewagon (or G-Wagon) is a civilian version of a military truck. It's off-road capabilities are unmatched by almost all other vehicles out there.
The GL is a stretched version of the ML chassis. Having a 3rd row for seating, it's a better people hauler than a G-Wagon but it cannot match the off-road prowess of the G-Wagon.
Which is the better vehicle depends on what you need and want a vehicle to do the most.
