Is it okay to dress better than my superiors? ?

I just got a job at a department store as a sales associate. Most of the employee wear a cheap shirt tee and black pants/ skirt. The assistant managers aren't really particular about their clothes. Its my 5th day and I've been rocking all my fashionable clothes like a boss. But aside from my clothes they can't say anything about my work because o'm good.

    Dress tastefully..neatly, without being overdressed..

.....and if you are good in your job, the customers will appreciate it and good words go far..

Keep smiling and being the best you can be everyday, and don't worry what others are wearing, just stand out and apart and you'll get noticed, for your dress sense and your manners..

Best of success in all you do !

Is there a dress code? Are you expected to wear certain clothes? or clothes purchased from the store? If there's nothing in your training about it, then I guess wear what you want. Generally, though, an employee should use what co-workers wear to determine appropriate attire for the job.

It is great to look nice, but do keep in mind that if it's obvious you're trying to outdo everyone else, you could create a lot of hard feelings between you and your co-workers.

I don't think you can get in trouble for dressing appropriately. I had a boss who never dressed up, not even to our holiday parties. I don't see anything wrong with it. I would think that you'd probably have better luck with customers too since you look the part.

Generally you should model after your superiors, unless your job doesn't really call for it. It may not put your job in jeopardy, but it is in bad taste.

I think it will be OK, as long as you work well.
